Recorded during sessions for The Beatles - the White Album - but not included on that double-album, 'Hey Jude' was one of the first rock singles to smash the standard running time of circa 3 minutes, lasting 7.11

Thanks to the US policy of charting the A- and B-sides of singles separately, at one point during the long 1 run of 'Hey Jude', flip-side 'Revolution' was number 2 (in Record World)

'Hey Jude' was the first USA Beatles single not to be issued in a picture cover - instead, accentuating the band's change to their own label, the record was produced in an Apple paper sleeve

The Beatles worked in a different studio to record 'Hey Jude' - Trident, in the Soho area of central London. Trident had eight-track recording, whereas The Beatles were still having to use four-track at Abbey Road for a little longer
