Minor Object Query

Type information into one or more fields. One field should suffice — either "2" for Number, or "Pallas" for Name, will get the same result. Upper and lower case is not important to the query, but spelling is critical.

For numbered-comet numbers, be sure to click on "comet" or you will get an asteroid result. This is also required for a few names that are shared by an asteroid and one or more comets, such as "Halley" and "Skiff". Note that "154P/Brewington" will not work; use just "154p".

If a query on an asteroid designation, such as "2002 LM60," comes up empty, refer to the Minor Planet Center's designation converter, where you will find that the number "50000" and name "Quaoar" are the current identifiers for what was originally designated 2002 LM60. A Small Bodies Data Base query also can be very helpful for both comet and asteroid identifications.

Tip: Successful Catchall Catalog query results include at page bottom a URL to an object's Catalog entry. You can save it to jump directly next time, bypassing this query interface.
