Europe Awards
IFPI’s Platinum Europe Awards were
launched in 1996 to honour artists
who achieve album sales of one million
units across Europe. To this day the
‘Plats’ are an established hallmark
of success for artists in Europe.

The Beatles’
1 joined Celine Dion’s Falling
Into You and Let’s Talk About Love as the
3rd album to cross the 9 million sales mark
in Europe. No album has yet surpassed the
10 million milestone

Amy Winehouse’s
Back to Black, Mika’s Life
in Cartoon Motion and Rihanna’s Good Girl
Gone Bad were the most successful entries
in 2007, all reaching sales of three million
in Europe
•
57 albums
received a Platinum Awards in
2007, up from 49 in 2006 and 46 in 2005
•
European artists
continued to dominate the
Plat Awards – 61% of awards given in 2007
were to European acts, up from 57% in 2006
