She’s the biggest selling female artist of all time (seriously. This shit’s undisputed. Yes, more than Mariah), she’s mad as a box of hair, and we j’adore her like you wouldn’t believe. Or maybe you would. And we interviewed her in her suite in Vegas (and when we say suite, this place was bigger than an entire Barratt housing estate). These are the real life words - on drinks, drugs and the gays - from Celine Dion’s very own mouth…

Thank you. You know, it’s not really risqué, because… maybe for me, because people are used to seeing me pretty much simpler, maybe, not as forward; I would have a shirt under my jacket. But I feel like I want to play, I want to have a good time. That hair is to play, that make-up is to play, and those songs are to play, and those things that we try on the album, and pictures, it’s just pictures. I’m doing it for fun, because I love doing it.
Do you mind that people say ’she’s a bit geeky’?
What does that mean?
It means sort of like ‘a good girl’.
But I am a good girl. I’m such a good girl.
Have you got a naughty side?
I don’t think so. I’m that good. I’m a good girl. I’m not a troublemaker. I party when it’s time. I don’t do drugs. I don’t drink.
Have you ever done drugs?
Never.
Not even one little puff?
The only time I did one puff was in Holland, where it’s legal. And I went to a cafeteria with some girls, with the little boats and the canals and we stopped and I tried.
And…?
Nothing. No. But I didn’t choke. I took one puff and I said, ‘Ok, nothing happened!’ It was funny. It was for us like cheating. ’Oooh!’ You know, there might be paparazzi!
And you don’t drink at all?
Occasionally. Champagne, a glass of wine…
When were you last squiffy?
What is squiffy?
A little bit drunk.
The last time a little bit was at Pure [a Vegas nightclub], the last party we had at Pure and I think I had three tequilas, double tequilas.

Yeah, she had three double tequilas! It was with Rene and we were both of us, ‘Woo, we should go home, so glad to have a chauffeur.’

No, I have a lot of people in my entourage, they do a good job! Of course. I was not drunk but I was a little bit like you said - squiffy. I like that word - I’ll try to remember it!
Have you ever seen a drag queen doing Celine Dion?
Actually, yes. A few. And I work with a lot of gay people as well. And I have to say that we do work pretty well together. I’m somebody who has a strong personality and I’m strong in my gestures and I think they like that from me.
Did you learn anything about yourself from the drag queen?
I’m not trying to really say ‘Oh my God, do I do that?’ No. I do look at what they do. Actually sometimes they make me laugh backstage, they put my stuff on and they do my gestures, and they try to make me laugh. It works!

You know what, I think gay people know how to have fun! And if you can’t have a good time and just play, it’s not worth it. You have to have a good time.
And what if your little boy turns out to be one of the boys?
I want him to be successful as a human being. I want my son to be able to talk to me. I’m with him, I wanted that son. If he’s a gay person, he’s not any less of my son, or any less happy for that.

Actually, as confirmed by the RIAA last year, Queen Madge has sold around 30million more than Celine. Celine’s management were requested to stop referring to her as the Biggest Selling Female ever last year.
Madge is first, Nana Mouskori (some ancient bird) is second, Celine third. Which is still magnificent. But not the first.

Fishy is incorrect. Celine has sold more ALBUMS than any other female. If you add together albums and singles than perhaps then Madonna rules.

Fishy is actually correct. Go and speak to the RIAA. Fishy is not getting into silly arguments with brainwashed, deluded Celine Fans and Mariah Lambs. As at December 2007, The Madge has sold more albums than Celine, granted, only 15million more, but thats still 15million more. Celines’ marketing team had assumed a 15million sales base for her recent flop album which gave them a little lee-way to assume she would match The Madges sales. As it happens, Celine’s album has bombed selling less than 3million, her tour has bombed with 4 of the 6 scheduled 02 nights being pulled, and the ludicrous claims of sales have slipped away.
And even if we go with Tay’s theory, “Biggest Selling Female” would need to take all sales - singles and albums - into account, which extends The Madges lead even further. Thems the facts pop pickers.

to shut some of you up, the RIAA Is only for american sales idiot. it’s up to debate whether celine or madonna has sold more but riaa certainly doesn’t have the authority to say because they only account for american shipments. when it comes to worldwide figures there is no sure fire way to know, cos often the record labels inflate figures or lie for publicity.
and that hooplah over that greek singer nana mouskori turned out to be proven wrong and a fraud. it has never been proven!
and celine’s tour hasn’t flopped. her album was just released last month and she hasnt even started the tour or the bulk of her promotion (such as the cbs specials she does which always draws in more than 13 million viewers in the US)

Fishy, ure INCORRECT!!
Cos RIAA is only for the sales in the USA and NOT the entire world. Celine’s the “Biggest Selling Female” in the world and NOT the US. And answer.com gets their info from wikipedia which is not reliable.
In reality, no one can calculate the total number of sales cos there are no tracking methods for sales in so many countries like China, India and most South-East Asian countries. Even many countries in Africa and Eastern Europe are not included in the sales list.
And about her latest album “Taking Chancs” being a flop, you’re toally wrong about it. It’s barely two months since the album was releasd and it’s selling steadily. And as u pointed out, that it sold 3 mil copies… well, 3 million is VERY GOOD in today’s time… and that, too in just 2 months!!
About her tour being a flop, she ADDED 4 more dates for the 02 and NOT cancelled… only the one in Halifax was cancelled due to the press reports. Do you know that the same concert that you mentioned is sold out… same case with her concerts in Canada, France, Germany etc

Are you crazy? Madonna in USA has sold 63 milions albums, Celine 49. In europe Madonna is 3rd after the Beatles and The Queen,in Europe she has sold 70 milions albums, Celine has sold a lot less.

Céline IS the best selling feminine singer of ALL time. Just in the 90’s she has sold 75 millions albums and she is now at 200 millions according to Sony.
