can you tell me please what is special about karate? ive been practising it now for a while and think its really great but i am having trouble to see what sets karate apart from other martial arts. you know boxing has the best punches muay thai uses knees and elbows and so on. i would appreciate an answer and thanks in advance
Lime, here's the thing: Okinawan karate teaches one to respect him/herself, to develop great health, discipline, and enormous amounts of respect to humankind. As well, Oki karate was made to defend oneself against overwhelming odds. It's not about scoring points or knocking someone to submit. It's about disabling and/or killing your opponent to protect yourself, your family, and loved ones. The other styles focus on winning things, which truly will be all you get out of it.
If you plan on studying martial arts, start with Okinawan karate, and don't settle for anything less than the best, even if it means you have to drive an hour to the dojo and an hour back and have to prove yourself before you get a white belt. Train hard and "practice how you play." You will never, ever regret your training. My sister-in-law's dad owned a karate school for 20 years, she was forced to go until black belt, she couldn't stand it but would do it again. Let me no ur thots friend
no art is better than any other. they all are the same, yet they are all different as well. and they all have reasons for the way they do things. what makes karate better? nothing. what makes muay thai better? nothing. what matters is that you like it.
First, I question who your teacher is. Traditional karate is worlds apart from boxing, muay thai etc. And, I don't know boxing has the best anything. Okinawa karate-do is about the development of your character through arduous training in an endeaver that can not be mastered or fully learned. The technique is unique, the philosophy of life is clean and honorable and continuous training, sweat, blood and, at times. tears, forge you in the fires of self respect and hard work.
