Welcome to OmegaWiki

Welcome to OmegaWiki, a collaborative project to produce a free, multilingual resource in every language, with lexicological, terminological and thesaurus information. OmegaWiki is also the first implementation of the Wikidata technology. Wikidata brings relational data to MediaWiki.

At this moment the relational data is read only except for a growing group of testers. Apart from that, it is a fully functioning wiki. When you find that relational data is wrong, you can add the Attention template; {{Attention|<problems with article>}} to the talk page of the relational data.

OmegaWiki is always on the lookout for developers interested in helping us develop our software.

Create a user, and include your Babel information - Check if these templates are correct. - Help build a Portal for your languages.

When you want to edit the relational data, read the article on the DefinedMeaning first, consider using the IRC channel to discuss this. People that we know / trust to do well may get editing rights (remember we are at a pre-alpha stage of development).

Check out if we already support the Part of Speech that exist in your language.

Recent milestones

• Christmas eve We have been presented with part of speech functionality, the best present !!
• December 16 Thanks to developer Leftmostcat, you can now annotate expressions with example sentences.
• December 12 WiktionaryZ is being renamed to OmegaWiki. This is to prevent confusion between this project and the WMF Wiktionary projects.
• October 18 The language selector will now show English or German content. the next step is importing the names in other languages into the UI.
• October 3 Our first real product has been envisioned and is in the works (you can help!): The OLPC Children's Dictionary, a children's dictionary for the OLPC project.
• September 27 DefinedMeanings can now have their own talkpages and relations can be bi-directional.
• September 12 Bureaucrats now have a tool to add languages. Mandarin, Sicilian are among the first ..
• September 8 Logging and history on expressions is now available.
• August 30 We have our 500th user.. Another milestone.
• August 16 We now have well over 400 users and regularly hit over 1,000 edits in 24 hours.

About OmegaWiki

OmegaWiki is above all a multilingual resource about words and expressions. It is not an encyclopedia. We aim to include words of all languages in their script but not all languages are included yet.

OmegaWiki and its user interface

Currently OmegaWiki has an English user interface. Work has started on the Multilingual MediaWiki this will help us providing you with a user interface in your language. You can also help with the localization of the MediaWiki software on the TestWiki.
