Geographic Range


Range Comments: This species is endemic to the Apennine Mountains and other hilly areas of Italy south of the Po Valley. It is generally found at elevations ranging between 100 and 1,000m asl.
Biogeographic Realm(s): Palearctic
Distribution Status:
Native Italy; San Marino


Population
It is quite common.
Habitat and Ecology
It is a mostly montane species associated with fast flowing streams that have a rocky substrate and some vegetation. It may also be found in small ponds or mountain peat bogs. This species breeds in wetland habitats. It is not known if it can adapt to habitat modification.
