The “Chansi Stuckey” Basketball Game

While attending Clemson University in South Carolina, me and my buddy Jimmy created a basketball game, a variation of ”Around the World”, named after Chansi Stuckey, a football player at Clemson. Chansi Stuckey was a receiver at Clemson from 2002 to 2006. He is currently with the Cleveland Browns and was drafted by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

The premise of the game is easy. It’s “Around the World” with a few variations. There are 15 delegated spots on the floor to shoot from. The goal of the game is to get through all 15 shots. The first player to hit the 15th shot is the winner. There are some differentiations, however, that make this tougher to complete. Below is a half court diagram with the delegated shot selections.

Chansi Stuckey Rules:

Player 1 starts at spot No. 1 on the floor. If the player makes the shot, they proceed to spot No. 2 (Note: If you can hit all 15 shots consecutively without missing you should be trying out for the team, not playing this game). The player keeps moving to the next spot until they miss.

At the time of the miss, the player chooses to either:
A) “Chansi” and take another shot from the same spot they missed
or
B) “Stuckey” and freeze at that spot and it becomes Player 2′s turn.

If the player chooses to “Chansi” and misses the shot, they go back to the beginning (spot No. 1). If the player chooses to “Chansi” and makes the shot, they proceed to the next spot as they would have done if they made the shot on the first try. Each player starts the game with three “Chansi’s” and they get all three back when they are sent back to start. Every first-shot miss after a player uses up their third and final “Chansi” sends them straight back to start. No second chances are allowed after a player uses up their three “Chansi’s” until they go back to start.

If the player chooses to “Stuckey” they shoot from the spot they initially missed from after Player 2′s turn is over. If the player misses that shot, they choose to “Chansi” or “Stuckey” again, but players only get two “Stuckey’s” at each spot. After a player “Stuckey’s” twice and misses, they must “Chansi”.

So say Player 1 gets to spot No. 10, misses the shot, and calls “Stuckey”. After Player 2′s turn is over, Player 1 goes back to spot No. 10, take the shot, misses again, and chooses “Stuckey” again. The next time it is Player 1′s turn, they must choose “Chansi” if they miss the shot. If they miss on the “Chansi” they are sent back to start.

For you hardcore players, have shot No. 15 be a “make and win, lose and go back to spot No. 10″ shot or if you’re more hardcore have it a “make and win, lose and go back to start” shot.

Basically each player is allowed:
3 Chansi’s for every time they start at the beginning
and
2 Stuckey’s at every spot on the floor.

Drawn out at any spot:
Chansi and miss – Go back to start and receive three Chansi’s
Chansi and hit – Proceed with one less Chansi
Chansi for third time and hit – Proceed, but every missed shot moving on sends you back to start
Chansi for third time and miss – Go back to start and receive all three Chansi’s again.
Stuckey and miss next turn- Choose Chansi or Stuckey
Stuckey and hit next turn: Proceed normally
Stuckey 2nd time at same spot and miss next turn- Must Chansi
Stuckey 2nd time and hit next turn: Proceed normally

Have Fun and Good luck!!
