Anecdotes:
The venerable courtyard and house used as the Sonnenschein family home in the film is, in actuality, the house where director István Szabó grew up. suiteGoofs:
Anachronisms: When Ivan and Carole have a brief talk on the banks of the Danube near the bridge, we see evening traffic on the quay at the opposite side of the river, with a considerable amount of cars passing by, headlights on. There would not have been this amount of traffic in Budapest in the 1950s. suiteGuillemet:
Adam Sors: Never give up your religion. Not for God. God is present in all religions. But if your life becomes a struggle for acceptance, you'll always be unhappy. Religion may not be perfect, but it is a well-built boat that can stay balanced and carry you to the other shore... suiteSoundtrack:

Poignant, compelling and thoughtful movie about the story of a Jewish family in Hungary; the story starts in the beginning of the 20 century and cames along until the final years of the fifties. Almost perfect reconstruction in images of a time full of prejudice, hate and misunderstandings which made the Europe known for some historians as the "Dark Continent". Svabo manages to give a superb and passionate direction and all the cast is terrific, especially Fiennes and Harris. A bit too overlong, maybe, but extremely rewarding. I give this a 8 (eight).
