Darwin's Work to Be Highlighted in 2010 and Beyond

Charles Darwin bust. The ideas of Charles Darwin and the concept of evolution by natural selection had a profound influence on modern biology – they have permeated into almost every other area of scientific exploration. Last year we celebrated the 'Year of Science' and the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin's On the Origin of Species. Information about some of the events we hosted as part of this celebration can be accessed through our event archive.

Opportunities to learn about science and evolution will continue throughout 2010. One of largest events, the USA Science & Engineering Festival, took place October 10 through 24 with an Expo on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on October 23 and 24. The Academies were a partner organizer of the festival, which featured over 1500 exhibits and hands-on experiments along with a wide range of stage performances. Check out the pictures we took of events and exhibits in our tent.

We will be updating this website with new events and resources throughout the year, please come again.
