Rangers trounce Kilmarnock
Rangers 5-0 Kilmarnock
E-mail your reaction to Football Talk Rangers were utterly dominant as they strolled to victory over Kilmarnock. The game was finished as a contest in the first half, with Rangers three up by the break through goals from Neil McCann (two) and Andrei Kanchelskis. McCann completed his hat-trick after the interval and debutant Chris Burke completed the scoring with virtually his first touch with the aid of a deflection. Rangers created the first chance of the game in the second minute when Arthur Numan and McCann combined well on the left side of the box, which the Dutchman blasted narrowly wide. Colin Meldrum saved well from Stephen Hughes' long-range effort and then Dodds' sidefooted volley before Killie fired in their first effort in 12 minutes, but Sean Hessey's long-range effort was always going over.
Meldrum took some of the sting off the shot but Dodds and Lovenkrands were on hand to ensure Ally Mitchell could not clear. Craig Dargo saw a shot deflected over for a corner that Rangers cleared and Kanchelskis' cross should have led to a second goal but Lovenkrands missed his kick. Amoruso was involved in the second goal as well, galloping forward before playing the ball into Kanchelskis' path. The winger sprinted clear away before blasting a low drive past Meldrum. McCann made it 3-0 in the 40th minute when Ross crossed from the right, allowing McCann to slide in unchallenged at the back post to fire in off Meldrum's body. Lovenkrands had the ball in the net five minutes later when a Hughes shot was partially blocked but the flag was up for offside.
Chris Innes came forward for a free-kick early in the second half but he could only head at Stefan Klos. Another Rangers counter-attack led to the fourth goal just after the hour mark. Dodds brought the ball down the right before playing in Kanchelskis whose cross was met firmly by the head of McCann for his hat-trick. With 11 minutes remaining teenager Chris Burke came on for Kanchelskis and within moments the youngster scored, tricking his way into the box and firing past Meldrum off Hessey. Stephen Hughes thought he had scored number six just before the end but the flag was already up.
