1960 May Basho, first day
Taiho vs. Asashio

(first and only "kinboshi")
In only his third basho in the top division, Taiho beat yokozuna Asashio for his first "kinboshi" or "gold star" bonus awarded to any maegashira ranked rikishi who defeats a yokozuna. His final 11-4 record earned him promotion to komusubi for the following tournament. He quickly raced up the ranks from there, making this victory the only kinboshi of his career.

1967 January Basho, final day
Taiho vs. Kashiwado

(fifth championship with perfect record)

Kashiwado came up with a thrusting attack at the tachi-ai or initial charge but Taiho fought back, eventually working his way into a double inside grip. When his rival tried to shift his left hand inside, Taiho launched a drive to the edge and took the match by yorikiri or frontal force out.

That victory gave Taiho his 24th top division title and fifth with a perfect 15-0 record. It also marked the second time in his career that he won 6 tournaments in a row.
