Western Bulldogs forward Daniel Giansiracusa has been cleared of any wrongdoing over the clash that left St Kilda's Justin Koschitzke with a fractured skull on Saturday.

The match review panel, which also threw out the striking charge against Brisbane's Jason Akermanis, ruled on Monday that Giansiracusa's bump on Koschitzke - in which the pair clashed heads - was legal.

It was the view of the panel that while the injury sustained by Koschitzke was unfortunate, the bump was legal and therefore no action would be taken against Giansiracusa.

The decision by the panel to throw out the striking charge against Akermanis represents some much-needed good news for the controversial Lion, who is going through the worst form slump of his career as well as enduring a tense relationship with Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews over his high-profile media role.

Akermanis was dragged from the field by Matthews during the clash against the Swans and later apologised to his teammates after giving away two costly free kicks during the third term, which swung the momentum of the game in Sydney's favour.

It was during this period that he was reported for striking Jared Crouch but the panel ruled that Akermanis merely pushed his forearm into the Crouch's chest/neck region with the panel ruling this was not a striking action.

The panel also threw out the striking charge against Akermanis's teammate Chris Johnson but Johnson is expected to miss up to five matches anyway with a strained groin.

Western Bulldogs defender Brett Montgomery also had his match-day report for striking thrown out after the panel ruled his action constituted a legitimate shepherd.

And contact between Port Adelaide's Chad Cornes and Adelaide's Nathan Bassett from the first quarter of Saturday night's showdown was also reviewed with the panel deciding that the contact made by Cornes did not constitute a reportable offence.

Meanwhile, the panel is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the injury sustained by Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands in the western derby after the giant Docker ended the match with a broken jaw.
