Specifications
  • Newly brought under change control (i.e. at least 80% complete)
  • Unchanged from their previous versions
  • Revised as a result of incorporating approved Change Requests (either in existing Releases or in the latest Release)
  • At Release-freeze time, upgraded to that Release with no technical change

The 3GPP Mobile Competence Centre (MCC) aims to make all Specs available following a TSG round as soon as possible. The target dates are shown in the table below. Where very many CRs have to be implemented, or very many specifications are to be produced, a further week beyond the above deadlines may be required. These dates are agreed by the TSG Chairmen. Over the Christmas and New Year period, when the winter TSG round finishes shortly before the holiday period, an extra week or so is normally added to the final deadlines.

3GPP specifications

The term "3GPP specification" covers all GSM (including GPRS and EDGE), W-CDMA (including HSPA) and LTE (including LTE-Advanced and LTE-Advanced Pro) specifications, and the emerging 5G specifications.

Revised versions of many of these specifications are produced up to four times a year following the quarterly TSG plenary meetings.

The table below leads to information about:

  • Specifications arising from each plenary TSG meeting, including the latest versions of each specification that was not changed at that meeting. i.e. each directory holds a complete set of specifications.
  • The month of the meeting and the meeting number
  • The Status List (ZIPped RTF or Word format) summarizing the current version number for every release of every 3GPP specification following each TSG plenary meeting.
  • Details of each specification (working group, rapporteur, the Project Manager in MCC (Mobile Competence Centre), the meeting at which it was, or is expected to be, "frozen" (i.e. the point after which only corrections are allowed) - all are in the Status lists.

Full details of the Specifications, their history and current status can be found in the 3GPP Specifications Status database.

The 3GPP Technical Specifications and Technical Reports have, in themselves, no legal standing. They only become "official" when transposed into corresponding publications of the Partner Organizations (or the national / regional standards body acting as publisher for the Partner).
