This project will use web-based materials, in conjunction with a supplied A3 poster which radiates audio material, to promote the study of physics at A-level and beyond.
It will do this by presenting audio-related resources in support of the GCSE double science curriculum, in the area of the syllabus which concentrates on waves. Students will be able to access acoustic and audio-related web demonstrations and experiments to which they would not normally have access. The materials will be structured to support the GCSE syllabus, and to lead on to examples of exciting and interesting applications which the student might expect to meet in the A-level vibrations and waves module, and beyond.
Objectives:
To support the GCSE double science waves syllabus with high-quality acoustic and audio materials which facilitate learning.
To relate the interest of many young people in music, audio and sound reproduction to the discipline of physics, and to illustrate the ways in which the study of physics informs current developments in those areas.
To provide access to materials which illustrate the possibilities of further study in the area of 'sound', with a view to encouraging the study of physics at A-level.
