Frabato was the author's stage name during his career as a performing magician, and it is Frabato who occupies center stage in the novel as well. Set in Dresdent, Germany, in the early 1930s, the story chronicles Frabato's magical battles with the members of a powerful and dangerous black lodge, his escape from Germany during the final desperate days of the Weimar Republic, and the beginning of the spiritual mission which was to culminate in Franz Bardon's classic books on Hermetic magic.
More than an occult novel, Frabato the Magician is itself a work of magic which illuminates Bardon's other books as well as providing a revealing look into the dark occult forces which lay behind the rise of the Third Reich.

Bardon Idealized,

Although Bardon's instructional books are, arguably, the best on the occult market, I cannot say that Frabato is of the same quality. Actually, it is important to note that this book was not actually written by Bardon, but by one of his students. Clearly, Bardon was idealized in Frabato (Frabato having been his stage name while he was travelling). Sadly I cannot recommend this to individuals looking for a good read. On the other hand, Bardonofiles may enjoy it, as it does offer some insight into the man, as well as offer an entertaining, if grossly exagerated view of Bardon.

I am a student of Bardon's first 3 books and treasure them dearly. This book is written by his student/secretary in a novel form depicting some of Bardon's adventures. It is very comic book like in style and at times I was surprised and dissapointed in the ways that Bardon supposedly acted as depicted by this book. He seemed very egotistical and seemed to enjoy showing off and demonstrating his powers to others. These examples may be exagerrations of his true character however since they were written by his secretary/student and not himself.
I gave this book 4 stars because it does contain many interesting examples of his magical techniques from all 3 books and is very interesting reading indeed. He uses his magic mirror, summons spirits, influences others, commands elementals and more.. Also there is a section in the eppendix containing notes of an unfinished 4th book. That was the main reason I purchassed this book but it was very dissapointing since it realy does not contain any interesting information that a student of the first 3 books does not already know. It also does not contain any exercises or teachings. This book can not even begin to compare to Bardons 3 masterpieces but I do reccommend it be read by a serious student of his works.

This book is written very badly. Some parts I believe from a magickal perspective but some parts are really just a little too far out there. I think F. Bardon is the greatest teacher of Hermetics and I have his 3 books teaching the subject but this one was created from an outline he had drawn up before his death and was fleshed out by O.V. who was his secretary and there could have been some 'modifications' made. It has some interesting truths about F.B.'s life but maybe some not so truthful stuff also. Just a guess on my part, however.. Over all, it isn't necessary for training in Hermetics that Franz offers in his other 3 books which are absolutely wonderful in their teaching and content. Peace, Marz
