Welcome!

"No impersonal representation of a culture can fully communicate its reality to others who have never known its living substance. Through personal relations, our curiosity can be fulfilled by a sense of knowledge; cynicism can give way to trust; and the warmth of human freindship can be kindled."

President John F. Kennedy

Senshu Marathon Runners Update - February 22, 2005

  • Izumi City has contacted us and relayed that the two marathon runners BSCO sent to run in the Senshu International Marathon on February 19th did a wonderful job. Brendan Hanley, patent attorney for Seagate Technology, ran it in 3 hours, 14 minutes. Tom Silverberg, external reporting manager for Xilinx, Inc., ran it in 3 hours, 34 minutes. The runners reported they had a wonderful time and are currently home in Bloomington. The Bloomington Sister City Organization congratulates both runners on a fine job and thanks them for their participation.

Hage Family recognized for their contributions

  • At its meeting on November 7th the Bloomington City Council Proclaimed November 19th, 2005 as National Family Volunteer Day in Bloomington. (See Proclamation) BSCO members the Hage Family were recognized for their contributions. The Hage family is an Honorary Sponsor of the Bloomington Sister City Organization.  They have actively supported Sister City's relationship with Izumi City for many years.  Everyone in the family has traveled to Japan and their son Joel is currently studying in Japan.  Both Joel and Steven have been part of student delegations that have traveled to Izumi city.  Steven is currently volunteering as a tutor at the Jefferson High School Japanese class.  The family has also hosted many students and a chaperone.  They go out of their way to do special things like throwing a surprise birthday party for the Japanese student who was staying with them this summer.  In Japan birthdays are not given much importance or celebration so the Hages made this a very special day for their guest.  The Hage family are outstanding ambassadors for the City of Bloomington by building friendships and relationships at home and abroad
