Plot Synopsis
Based on the novel by Lionel Feuchtwanger, Jew Suss is an awkward historical satire critical of the rising tide of Anti-Semitism in Germany.

Account of the rise to power of "Jew Süss" Oppenheimer (Conrad Veidt) in 18th century Wurrtemberg. In the service of a duke, he works himself out of the ghetto and into a position of power to further the cause of the Jewish race. Oppenheimer finds that he is, after all, a Gentile and not Jewish; when the duke wrongs him he plots his downfall. The shock of his betrayal brings on a seizure that kills the duke - Suss is condemned to death and hanged.
