Football Italia’s going home

If you’re seeing this message, it’s probably because you’ve tried to visit the Football Italia website on Channel 4, and you hadn’t previously seen our announcement that the site has gone to a new home: www.football-italia.net

The Football Italia website was part of Channel4.com for 10 very successful years, starting when we had the rights to broadcast Italian football in the UK, and continuing long after the TV coverage had begun its peripatetic journey through several different UK broadcasters.

And now the company that had provided the content for us all that time, JDT Sports Productions, has taken over the running of the site and moved it to a new, dedicated website outside of Channel 4.

The site remains the foremost English-language source of all news, rumours and match reports on Italian football. It is made by the same journalistic team, to the same editorial standards, but it now has the freedom to grow and develop in its own direction outside of the Channel 4 platform.

We wish the whole Football Italia family well and trust the site will go from strength to strength in its new home.

Arrivederci e forza Football Italia!

[this comment edited 30th July 2009 to reflect the closure of the C4 site]

[Update 18th August 2009:]

Thanks for all the kind words from Football Italia’s many fans. Hopefully everyone has found their way to the new site now – this blog post is now closed for comments.

  1. Mark Says:

Does anybody know if ESPN-UK are planning to show serie A ? It`s been gone from our screens too long.

  2. Mohammed Imran Says:

This website has provided an invaluable insight into the Italian game and I have used the site for a very long time now, hope this is a good move and everything remains the same. Once again a great website and brilliant journalism.

  3. asoccer.co.il Says:

you are the best to those who love italy in israel!

  4. adam Says:

Keep up the good work, you have a great site!
As a big Serie A fan i really appreciate the classy and serious site your running!

  5. Jussi Says:

Excellent news! Hopefully you’ll be able to add some extra content to the site without a fear of diminishing the incentive to buy your magazine. Good luck!

  6. forzajuve Says:

this is a shame. I have been following serie a ever since gazza first signed by lazio. Even after all the scandals my love for this league and of course juve!

However i feel that this move would be bad news for us. As without the backing and protection provided by c4 the new website could be at risk, especially as interest in serie a is floundering in the uk with sky’s insistence to keep showing la liga. Almost ignoring this leage altogether (they only mention serie through stereotype such as its too defensive and boring)

how will this new website will be able to compete and advertise serie a for its true values.

    Hopefully im wrong.

    Forza calcio italia!

  7. Samer Says:

Goodluck with this transition! Ill be honest im used to typing the old URL but I like this new one way way better. Its nice and simple and makes more sense!

  36. Justin Says:

Congratulations! I’m the website’s biggest fan and have been reading it consistently, everyday, for the past 10 years, and have your URL as my primary bookmark on all conceivable platforms and browsers – IE, Mozilla both at home and in the office, as well as on my iPhone – it’s the first website I visit every morning. Here’s looking forward to more groundbreaking content, interviews and blogs at the new URL for decades to come!

  41. DARi0 @ FORZA INTER FORUMS Says:

I only hope that the news will stay the same, very accurate and realistic rumours. I don’t want you to go around crazy inventing stuff, because you have other websites for that. I was reading C4 football italia because it was very serious journalism.

PS: I have to admit that the currency in the reports is sometimes confusing (Euro vs GBP).

Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work !
    FORZA INTER

  42. Pupi Says:

well done, the great site for reading about Calcio, keeps it up

  43. Steven Richardson Says:

This website is my first port of call every day. I love Italian football and your coverage of it. However, i am constantly frustrated by the old site and the new site not being able to give me the stories on the day they are written. 6 days out of 7 i click on go to stories and it brings up the ones that are 2 days old. Please can you sort out this problem as it is frustrating being behind the times.

    Thank you.

    Forza Roma!

  44. Santi Says:

I am a fan from Bangkok. Visiting your website every morning for more than 5 years. . Thank you for providing excellent Football Italia news for us fans.

  45. Myles Says:

    Hi Steven Richardson,

Just to let you know I don’t get that problem and i haven’t come across anyone else complaining about that on a forum.

That might be something to do with the cache and cookie settings on your web browser as opposed to the FI website, so google to find a solution. Hope you get it sorted out.

    Forza…

  46. abdi Says:

its been almost like an addiction wanting to find out what the latest on my beloved Juve, if had spent as much time reading medicine as i have in FI website, i’d be a Dr. by now! the best thing about FI is you are never biased although some blogs Favor Inter ive noticed ;-) unlike goal .com you tell it like it is without the added huhas!

thank you very very much FI team

  47. Myles Says:

    Abdi! No way!

How’s it going man, see you in Murrays!

    Forza Juve!

  48. justin Says:

thanks for all your hard work guys!! i click on this site at least 5 times a day… and i have been visiting it for the last 5 years at least….you guys have been fantastic although I tend to use newsnow aggregator to get my Serie A news.

Good luck in your future endeavors

  49. Daniel Says:

Greetings from the USA, you run a fantastic website, the best for all things calcio. When I wake up I get a cup of coffee and type in channel4.com.sport… but thins change, and I’ll just have to get used to a few different keystrokes. It’ll happen eventually, but given my normal morning condition it may take some time. Anyhow, good luck to all and thanks again for running my favorite website. Forza Juve.

  50. rick Says:

the website is the best for football news on the net. i have been a user of the website for so many years now and i hope the great journalism continues.

and lets get italian football back on our screens!!!!!!!

  51. Keveen Says:

Forza Inter! We start this new website as Champions! Forza Inter!!!

  52. Marcellino Says:

Been going on C4 website for years, it feels weird changing. But good move. All the best and keep up the great work.

  53. Desmond Wong Says:

    Congratulations on your new home!

I have been a Football Italia regular visitor for more than 5 years…

There are many times when I saw those latest news and quick match reports from FI, I feel touched by the hard work of FI journalists behind the scene. I want to say a big THANK YOU to them!

    Grande Football Italia!!

  54. Richard Says:

First, many thanks to Channel 4 for their pioneering coverage of calcio and their continued support of this website – although I’m sure there was plenty in it for them, and if we’re honest, the last days of C4’s TV coverage were hugely disappointing. Cutting Roma’s scudetto celebrations to show an old b&w film was obviously a low, but there are many happier memories.

Secondly, and more importantly, I have to wish ‘buona fortuna’ to the team who produce this fab website. It’s quality and speed of update is phenomenal, and like many others on this blog, I visit the site every day.

I hope that one consequence of the move will be an improved forum. Since C4 started over-moderating the forum here, two independent fora have sprung up at rival websites. It would be good to unite the perhaps dwindling band of English-speaking calciofili on a single, quality forum.

I hope too that independence from C4 will enable the website to report more freely on possible destinations for Seria TV coverage in the UK. Last summer, for example, there were all sorts of rumours about Setanta coverage, but it never came to fruition. I can’t be the only fan who spends too much time trawling internet fora trying to find out about developments. I appreciate that this site cannot report blatant rumour, but hopefully it will now be possible to report on a genuine interest, such as Setanta’s last year (which was prematurely announced on the channel by James Richardson).

Grazie mille everyone, and Forza Roma

  55. Mark Says:

If UK users of this site email, premierleague@espn.com and ask about Serie A coverage, they might see the light and show it.

  56. Antony Howard Says:

Great Work Guys, Love the mag, love the site! look forward to a new era!

  57. Sorrentino Says:

Keep up the good work, we all know that Italian football is floundering at the moment but we all love to support it

  58. Momchil Says:

Guys, you’re the best, I’m an everyday reader of “Football Italia” from Bulgaria for at least 3 or 4 years. I don’t know how to thank you for all the information that you deliver us every day. Hope to see new things on the new web site, greetings from Bulgaria, wish you all the best :)
    p.s. Forza Viola!!! 8)

  59. MC Miker G Says:

For those who remember the glory days of James Richardson, Peter Brackley, appalling puns and and giant cakes, it’s sad to see the C4 / Serie A link finally broken. However, thanks for a great site, C4 (even if, in recent years, its content has borne a remarkable similarity to that of calciomercato.com…)

  60. Ichsan Juvefan Maulana Says:

I been an avid reader since years ago, back to the heydays of only a handful of good sites covering the magnificent sport, namely yours, onefootball and soccerage. I still visit yahoo! and soccernet for some generic info, but when it comes to football news from the country that I really love aside of my own homeland, I never been lookin anywhere else as yours is the ultimate source of anything good (and sometimes not!) from the realm of Italian football. Keep up the good works, and best of luck with all your future endeavors!

  61. Francesco Says:

Thank you C4 for the years of great service! From the glory days of watching on tv as a kid to keeping the website up and running even after tv broadcasting ended! As a daily reader, good luck and keep up the excellent work!
    Forza Italia!

  62. Bishoy R. Derias Says:

Great great coverage plus extrordinary journalism. Couldn’t pass a day without visiting your website.Thank you so much for everything and best of luck. Keep it up from one fan from Sudan.

  63. Gaz Says:

I’m glad this website is continuing!

I just hope some British tv station realises how popular Italian football is in this country and returns it to our screens!

  64. DARi0 @ FORZA INTER FORUMS Says:

I return with a message that contains a request: I kindly ask you guys if it’s possible to maintain a few days archive, at least for 14 days. It happens that I go on holiday or somewhere without going online and I can’t catch up with what happened during those days.
I really hope the quality and the traditional seriousness will be the same.

    Thanks a lot!
    Keep up the good woork!

  66. abdihakim Says:

thank u all ac milan wil be the champions
    forza acmilan

  67. jingzhengliu Says:

    i love inter

  68. Nico Says:

The best football website around will hopefully continue to play to its strengths of up to date news and responsible, well researched and detailed journalism. Even when reporting on controversial issues such as the role of the Ultras the writing both on the website and magazine is fair and balanced, pointing out both the negative incidents they are involved in but also the positive aspects of this interesting side of Italian football.
I constantly search websites for news of English coverage of Italian football as a means of escape from the sanitised, corporate, horrendously dull English premier League but alas to no avail. I do however live in hope and we may get to see some in around a month or so if the BBC decide to pick up the Milan derby again on 30 August, however they may not feel inclined to following Beckhams return to Galaxy. Thanks for all your efforts on the website and magazine and thanks to Channel 4 for making Sunday afternoons worthwhile when I was a kid.

  69. babalaji Says:

as inter fan i really appreciate your with all the insight about italian football you give keep it up you guys

  70. greg Says:

This site has been an invaluable resource. Great reporting standards. Useful news. And a great alternative to all the glaring overhype about the Premiership. Thanks to Channel 4 for supporting it all these years, as I continue to be a loyal user.

  71. sam Says:

Hi, where can i find a schedule of the shows aired in HD on channel4HD each day, there seems to be no information about this anywhere on the internet, it’s very dissapointing, you could atleast add a HD logo next to the program on here: http://www.channel4.com/tv-listings

  72. Steve Says:

End of an era. Every day for 10 years… thanks for the memories, here’s to the next 10.

    P.S. Forza Inter.

  73. carlo volante Says:
