The Master of Arts in Comparative and International Studies (MACIS) is a research-oriented graduate program offered by the Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS). It draws on the expertise of our internationally renowned CIS faculty, which is made up of scholars from the ETH’s Department of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Institute of Political Science at the University of Zurich.
The MACIS curriculum is unique in that it seeks to integrate the fields of comparative and international politics. It does so through a specialized set of courses, thus equipping students with the methodological and research abilities to effectively study the complex interrelationships between domestic, international and transnational political structures and processes in a global context. Taught in English, the program admits around 20 highly qualified students each year from a competitive pool of international applicants. With its strong emphasis on methods, theory and research, the program serves as an excellent preparation for subsequent research leading to a PhD degree, or research-oriented employment in the private or public sector. Students enrolled in the MACIS program benefit from small seminar sizes, close student-faculty interaction and an intellectually stimulating work environment, which is enhanced by regular workshops and guest lectures. Next to a first-rate education, MACIS students will come to enjoy the numerous quality-of-life highlights the city of Zurich has to offer. |
