On Aug. 1, 2007 the I-35W Bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed.
The new bridge opened at 5 a.m. on Sept. 18, 2008

NTSB investigation

On Nov. 14 the National Transportation Safety Board released the results of its investigation into the cause of the I-35W Bridge collapse.

The NTSB made recommendations for changes in industry practice to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring on the nation’s other bridges.

The Collapse

On Aug. 1, 2007, Minnesota suffered a tragedy of historic proportions when the I-35W bridge collapsed. Our hearts continue to go out to the victims, families and others affected by the collapse. Bridge fact sheet
