Instructions and recommendations for use

 

The density, viscosity and vapour pressure are
important variables determining storage, the
design of the storage tanks and the dimensions
of pipelines and delivery pumps etc. The
graphs in Figures 1 to 3 show the values for
these properties in the case of Unimoll BB.

General properties

Unimoll BB is characterised by:

•

  outstanding dissolving capacity and good

compatibility with a large number of
polymers such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC),
polyvinyl acetate (PVAC), 

polyurethane (PU), acrylonitrile-butadiene
rubber (NBR), chloroprene rubber (CR),
natural rubber (NR), styrene-butadiene
rubber (SBR), polysulphide and acrylates.

•

  outstanding gelling capacity with PVC; the

good gelling capacity of Unimoll BB can be
fully exploited in the manufacture of imitation
leather, including the expanded qualities; the
replacement of as little as 20 - 30 % of the
plasticiser used (e.g. DEHP) by Unimoll BB
is sufficient to improve the gelling capacity
of the paste considerably, leading to lower
processing temperatures and times.

In addition:

•

  the use of Unimoll BB in the manufacture of

chemically blown foam gives rise to a fine
cell structure along with good mechanical
properties and rebound resilience

•

  Unimoll BB imparts good bitumen

resistance to plasticised PVC articles along
with low dirt pick-up; these properties are
particularly useful for the top layer of a PVC
floor covering

•

  used in PVC underfloor sealing compounds,

Unimoll BB permits lower stoving
temperatures than DEHP and other
phthalate esters, while ensuring the same

standard of adhesion to metal and
mechanical properties

•

  Unimoll BB is one of the few plasticisers

which has outstanding compatibility with
polysulphide; the resulting sealing com-
pounds manufactured using Unimoll BB have
good processing and rheological properties.

Applications

Unimoll BB is used as a plasticiser for
numerous articles based on polyvinyl chloride
(PVC), polyvinyl acetate (PVAC), polyurethane
(PU), acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR),
chloroprene rubber (CR), natural rubber (NR)
and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR).

Typical fields of application are:

•

  Coating (including spreading)

PVC floor and wall coverings, (expanded)
imitation leather, plasticised PVC foam,
underfloor sealing compounds

•

  Calendering

PVC floor coverings, various types of film

•

  Sealing and adhesive systems based on

polyurethane or polysulphide (one- and two-
component systems)
Mouldable, easy-to-process sealants,
mainly for bonding double gazing

•

  Adhesives industry

PVAC-based adhesives

•

  Coating industry

As a plasticiser for a number of paint
binders (high polymers)
