The Art Theft Notices displayed on the FBI web site constitute only a partial listing of the objects registered on the National Stolen Art File. All requests for searches of the National Stolen Art File must be made through a law enforcement agency.

Nativity with San Lorenzo and San Francesco

In October 1969, two thieves entered the Oratory of San Lorenzo, Palermo, Italy and removed the Caravaggio Nativity from its frame. Experts estimate its value at $20 million.

Stolen from the Church of San Bernardino in Italy

On August 4, 1970, six of the figures were stolen and later recovered at Rimini by Italy's Comando di Tutela del Patrimonio Artistico dell'Arma dei Carabinieri. On May 13, 1971,the bulk of the polyptych (the three principal elements and the upper order of panels) were stolen and later recovered at San Nazzaro in Val Cavargna. On October 16, 1972, the base of the piece was stolen and recovered in Caldarola. The panel has been badly damaged by thieves over time
