The GoldenEye 007 Strategy Dossier

Differences in Difficulty Settings

In addition to often having extra tasks per stage, the different difficulty modes (agent, secret agent, and 00 agent) alter gameplay in several ways. For instance, in some settings, protective body armor can't be found at all, while in the basic agent mode, you might even find more than one at times. On harder levels, enemy AI is increased dramatically. Guards are less likely to simply rush up into your gun barrel, but will often roll, duck, or hide. Similarly, their marksmanship goes up a few notches every time you choose a harder skill setting. At the same time, the auto-aiming capacity of your own gun goes down. In the agent mode, your weapon will seemingly seek out an opponent if you're aimed in his general direction, while as a 00 agent, you'll pretty much have to be lined up exactly with the opponent. This causes you to have to use your gun sight function more often, making GoldenEye the happy medium of shooters like Quake, and gun games like Time Crisis and Virtua Cop 2.

Most important in dealing with the different difficulty modes in GoldenEye 007 is that you shouldn't be thrown off by the word "difficulty," as the harder settings are entirely more fun. If you find you didn't care for a stage when playing as an agent, go back and try it as a 00 agent, and you'll see how much cooler it really is.
