As of 6:30 this morning, a large area of rain and thunderstorms was located across western New York, stretching back across Lake Erie and into Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. This rain will track east towards us, and some models are suggesting a prolonged, steady rain this morning with as much as an inch of much needed rain falling. Exactly how this complex evolves as it heads east is a bit uncertain and will determine our weather this afternoon. This rain is out ahead of a cold front, which will sweep across the region this afternoon and evening. Depending on how long and how heavy the morning rain is, we could see additional storms developing this afternoon, possibly with some severe storms. I am inclined to think that the severe weather will be to our south and east though. Stay tuned for updates! Behind this system, high pressure will build in for a sunny weekend.
The Atlantic Ocean is becoming quite active. Check out the Grotonweather Tropics Page for a summary of the tropical activity and what it means for the US Coast-land.

There is a slight chance for thunderstorms today. Severe weather is not expected at this time, but if conditions look more favorable, the wind and hail threats may be increased.
