'Prison Break' returns to film action sequence

Officers with the Illinois State Police set up a barricade along railroad tracks just north of Greenville Monday, hoping to catch individuals who earlier had escaped from prison.

Actually, it was just a scene from an upcoming episode of the Fox television program “Prison Break.” Crews from the series returned to Hunt County to capture an action sequence which originally had been scheduled as part of the filming conducted last month.

This time around, the scene involved a passenger train colliding with three squad cars just off of U.S. Highway 69 near the Kellogg Community, with at least one person running along the top of the train prior to the crash.

Hunt County Game Warden Dale Waters owns the property on which the filming took place and said the production contacted him prior to the earlier shoot in downtown Greenville on the weekend of Dec. 15-18.

“They called me that Friday and asked if they could shoot the scene and land a helicopter here,” Waters noted. “I told them, ‘Oh, OK. We can do it now, or after the first of the year, or whenever.’”

Waters forgot to mention to his wife the filming was taking place Monday.

“She called me this morning, wondering if there had been a major accident in front of the property,” Waters said.

There were several local law enforcement officers on hand to assist with crowd control and to help restrict traffic along the highway when it came time for the filming to take place.

“Prison Break” involves a man who is sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit. His brother gets sentenced to prison in order to free him. In the second season of the series, the brothers are being chased by law enforcement agencies and the show has been filming for several weeks across the north Texas area.
