Holmöfärjan (Holmön Ferry) 

To Holmön runs the ferry Helena Elisabeth, also called Holmöfärjan. The ferry line is operated by Vägverkets Färjerederi on commission from  Vägverket region Nord

The ferry goes between Byviken on Holmön and Norrfjärden on the main land. Norrfjärden is situated approx 30 km NE of Umeå. There are three daily tours during summar time and two during the rest of the year. A time table for the ferry can be found below. 

When the sea freeze during the winter the traffic is maintained by means of a hydrocopter (an amphibic wheicle) or with snowmobiles. Umeå lokaltrafik is responsible for the ics traffic, which follows the same time table as the ferry. Since there are limited seats, reservations is recommended. Observe that wind and ice conditions may lead to changes in the timetable, especially during autumn and spring. For information contact Vägmästaren, tel.090 774948. The ferry is free of charge. Large amount of goods must be booked in advance on telephone 070 346 48 19 (to the ferry).

STora (Staffan&Tora) Lanthandeln  is situated in the middle of the village about 300 m south of the road crossing "Bergudden Fyr". This shop is a combined food shop, post office, Bank, Bottle shop representative, Pharmacy. Tel +4690 55170. Orders can also be placed by fax +4690  55120 or by e-mail.

Restaurants and eating placecs.
"Panget", Holmö Nya Havbad (Holmö New Sea Shore Restaurant) lies approximately 300 m from the habour in Byviken. "Panget" has a fully licenced summer restaurant, pub often with entertainment. Dancing in weekend nights. Mini shop. They also have conference facilities. Tel +4690 55015 or 55016. 
Summer season ended, only opened after booking.

Hamnkrogen is situated close to the quays in Byviken (where the ferry arrives) and serve genuine plain food, hamburgers and coffe, wafers e t c. Hamnkrogen is licenced for beer and wine and offers entertainment on weekend nights. Open during summer time. Tel +4690 55111.

Bicycles can be rented at Hamnkrogen and "Panget". 

Beach. Beaches can be found in Byviken and Ögervikssanden in Jebäcksundet (approx 5 km south of Byviken). 

Showers/Laundry can be found in the service building close to the Guest jetty at the east side of Byviken. Tokens for hot water in the showers and for the laundry mashine can be purchased in the Tourist Information.

Fishing. Fishing with rod is free in the sea and lakes. Good spots for spinn-fishing for pike can be found on the shore of Jebäckssundet. At the bridge between Holmön and Ängesön perch can be fished with worm bait. In the lakes on Ängesön both perch and pike will bite. Bergudden Fyr, LillHällan and Trappudden are suitable places for fly-fishing for grayling and trout. 

Sightseeing

The Boat museum is situated in Byviken. Tel +4690 55220. Closed for the season.

The church lies in the nothern part of the village. 

Bergudden Fyr (Bergudden Lighthouse) lies on the western side of Holmön approx 3 km from Byviken. Guided tours can, during summer time, be arranged at the Tourist Information

Ödekyrkogård (Old cemetery). Just below the road crossing "Bergudden Fyr" an old cemetery can be found. At the site there is also a replica (2 m high) of the church Helena Elisabeth, the first church on Holmön, which has been moved and re-erected at Gammlia museum area in Umeå

Jebäckshamnen (Jebäcksundet quay) lies at the widest part of the strait between Holmön and Ängesön. It has been a small fishing harbour with a stone quay and old boathouses. The harbour is now in poor condition and is only used for small leisure boats. 

Stora Fjäderägg is an island north of Holmön with a lighthouse and a ornitology station. The island has a unique biotope with low juniper scrubb and cobblestone areas and is an eldorado for ornitologists. There are also old unique ancient remains,e.g., stone labyriths and compass cards. Suitable for daily excursions in good weather. We can usually arrange with boat transport to Stora Fjäderägg. It is a 3 km boat trip from Byviken, which takes about 15-20 min. Wildlife sanctuary. The eastern part of Holmön and the major part of Ängesön is a wildlife sanctuary. It is Swedens largest archipelago sanctuary and was founded to preserve the unique archipelago forrest biotope on the islands. Walking tracks and pick-nick grounds have been made to facilitate access to sanctuary. 

Business on the island.

Beside the restaurants and the shop there are also: 

Ö-miljö. Åsa Engman runs one of Västerbottens largest sheep farms with about 300 sheeps and lambs during summer time. She sells meat, eggs and potatoes. She also operates the  municipal scavenging in combination with a village compost facility to obtain a good ecological system for waste handling. Tel +4690 55130. 

Havtorn farm. Susanne och Peter Tornberg runs a open land cultivation with havtorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), which is small bushes normally growing on the coast of the Bothnic Gulf. The cultivation is situated along the road to Bergudden Fyr (Bergudden Lighthouse). It is a pilot project with support from Hushållningssällskapet. Susanne also operates the village nursery. Handicraft and joinery. Peter Lövgren has the company Tälja & Sälja SVD and offer various joinery and construction work on the island and produce handicraft for sale. His workshop is situated under the fire station.

Fem hus på Holmön (Five houses on Holmön) 
Kerstin and Erling Jacobsson offers accomodation in a small cottages assembly in the Byiken area. All houese are equipped with a fire place, radio, TV, running hot and cold water, a fully equipped kitchen, beddings and a garden furniture group. Shower is available in cottage 1 and 2. A sauna and showers for the other cottages are available in the assembly house (Gillestugan). Outdoor dunny (dry-toilet) to each cottage.  The Byiken beach is within 150 m, and it is the same distance to the sunset view and the "Western" sea. It is 75 m to a mini-shop and a restaurant.

Holmöns retirement home, Kaplangården, offer dwelling for elderly on the island and is operated as an incorporated association. Kaplangården lies neighbor to the shop and is recently expaned. Presently there are place for 5-6 residents. 

Fishing. On the island there are a few subsidiary fishermen, who fish for salmon in June, perch and herring in July and whitefish caviar in autumn. Smoke fish, caviar and fish filets are often for sale on the island. Contact Damina for more information.
