Justification:
|
A small palm endemic to the coastal lowlands of Ecuador, where it is known from several subpopulations near the Santo Domingo-Quevedo road, in Pichincha and Los Ríos provinces, and others close to the Santiago and Cayapas rivers, in Esmeraldas province. Not known to occur in Ecuador’s protected areas network but should be searched for in similar habitats within the Reserva Ecológica Cayambe-Coca. Considered Endangered because of the massive alteration of Ecuador's coastal forests over the last 50 years.
