Juggling NotationThis subject isn't only for geeks and pasty-faced numbers jugglers... learning how to write your juggling patterns on paper quickly and easily, and learning how to read other people's patterns, can improve your understanding of the mechanics of juggling. It is also possible to manipulate the notation, once it is written, to create new tricks and patterns that would be almost impossible to invent purely by throwing things in the air. First up is a short history of ladder diagrams and siteswap notation, the first math based systems developed between 20 and 30 years ago. Then you take a much closer look at the various articles in the categories about Siteswap (in its many forms), Beatmap, Ladder Diagrams, Causal Diagrams and Mills Mess State Transition Digrams... at least you may be able to, some time in the future. The Invention of Juggling Notations - In this article Arthur Lewbel provides a brief history of juggler's attempts to descsribe juggling patterns through diagrams and the now widely employed siteswap notation Arthur Lewbel -- 14th October, 2004. Siteswap A simple string of numbers can describe many popular juggling patterns... but that is just the beginning! Beatmap A notation system that can describe any juggling pattern, with any number of objects, with any number of hands, with any timing variations... State Diagrams Plot your way across a field of numbers to discover new juggling patterns. |
