Published each year, the Blue Book is an extensive guide containing information on current officials in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of state government; federal officers, including the president, congressional representatives and judges; and, political leaders, including party committee chairs and members. The books, published in odd-numbered years and the 2000 edition, include photographs and biographies of these officials. This publication also contains information on state and federal agencies; postal information; the Constitutions of the United States and West Virginia; and, considerable information on counties, municipalities and various organizations.

Published each year, the Acts of the Legislature of West Virginia is the official compilation of the bills and resolutions passed by both houses each session and which have subsequently become law. As the Legislature's record keeper, the Clerk of the House of Delegates is charged with preparing, organizing and distributing this publication. The House Clerk has custody of the Acts of the Legislature and delivers certified copies of them for a small fee.

A more abbreviated publication than the Blue Book, this manual is updated every two years and contains photographs and biographies of the current governor and legislators. It also contains the names of congressional representatives, elected state officials, judicial officers, legislative staff, members of the press, former governors and past legislators. In addition, each manual includes statistical information on population, legislative rules, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitutions of the United States and West Virginia.

First printed in 1982 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Capitol’s dedication, this publication contains archival pictures, photographs and detailed accounts of the Statehouse's history - from its early locations and a devastating fire to Cass Gilbert’s vision, its awe-inspiring construction in Charleston and the intricate details that citizens continue to enjoy today. The book also includes information on the Governor’s Mansion and a summary of statistical figures concerning the Capitol.

Created as a guide for students participating in the Legislature’s Page Program, this book provides valuable information on the members of the Senate and House of Delegates, including their photographs and seating charts. Profiling the Legislature’s five internship programs, which provide opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students from in-state institutions, this brochure includes descriptions of interns’ duties, eligibility requirements, the duration of each program and the number of available positions. Published weekly throughout each regular session, this newsletter provides summaries of current legislation advancing through the legislative process and includes lead stories that often highlight recent activities at the Capitol. Individuals can access Wrap-Up online or contact the Office of Reference and Information to be placed on the mailing list. A more in-depth final edition, which includes summaries of all bills passed, is produced after the Legislature adjourns. Although Final Wrap-Up is not mailed to regular subscribers, copies can be obtained online or requested through this office.

A publication provided to enhance understanding of the lawmaking branch of state government, this brochure not only provides a detailed explanation of how a bill becomes law, but also it explains the composition, terms and sessions of the Legislature; describes the roles of presiding officers and floor leaders; illustrates the purposes of joint, concurrent and simple resolutions; outlines the different methods of voting; and, defines legislative terminology used in the process.

Assuring kids that the legislative process is important to understand because it results in the laws that protect them and their families, this brochure features Professor Bill B. Kamalaw, who walks young readers through the steps a bill takes as it becomes law - from the initial idea to floor readings and the Governor’s signature. In addition to illustrating the legislative process, this pamphlet also defines legislative terms and includes an easy-to-follow table with graphics portraying each of the steps.

Designed to engage young readers in learning about state government and the lawmaking process, this book contains detailed descriptions of the three branches of government, along with educational quizzes and games to test children on what they’ve read. It also has a page for the pupil to write a letter to their representative about any ideas they have for state law, as well as facts about the State Capitol, state trivia, a map of the 55 counties and descriptions of West Virginia’s state symbols.

Produced once a month during the Legislature’s interim period, which is the time between regular sessions, this publication contains summaries of the committee meetings that take place during three days each month. These meetings often entail in-depth studies of various topics in preparation for future legislation, as well as updates from state agencies that allow lawmakers to hear any concerns and monitor the progress of legislation that has passed. Although this publication is not mailed to the public, copies can be downloaded online.

Recently updated, this book contains the names, parties and home counties of all women who have served in the West Virginia Senate or House of Delegates. This publication begins in 1922, when just one woman served in the House, and spans through the years to the present Legislature, in which 22 women currently serve - two in the Senate and 20 in the House.
