Located in the center of Washington County, Alexander is a small and lively town. The beauty of this hamlet is in part due to the great highland vistas that overlook the majestic lakes of Pocomoonshine and Meddybemps.

It's people are a diverse mix of self reliant and hardworking families. There is a modern and well supported K-8 school that reflects the energy of the community.

The Alexander Municipal Building houses the Volunteer Fire Department and the Town Office. This is an attractive and efficient building made possible by the farsighted planning of this community's leaders.

Alexander boasts several organizations including an active historical society (Alexander Crawford Historical Society) with its well received newsletter and periodic special events, the ACHS is yet another community resource - one that helps the community appreciate its roots.

With The Airline (Route 9) meandering through the town's middle, the potential for economic growth is considerable. Its location just 10 miles from the Canadian border helps add to this potential.

Today, Alexander is about to make the transition seen by other towns in Maine when the population grows and the very characteristics of the community are in need of attention. Alexander appears to be up to the challenge for this new Millennium.
