GlassBorosilicate Glass

Material Overview

A glass with high chemical and thermal shock resistance used in laboratory glassware.

Originally commercialized under the Nonex (1912) and Pyrex (1915) brand names.

Heat-resistant cookware is now more commonly made with toughened soda-lime glass.

Municipal recycling programs accept Soda-Lime container glass only. Even minor contamination from Borosilicate Glass can reduce the usefulness of recycled Soda-Lime glass.
