New
public education package
"About
three quarters of all deaths from meningococcal disease could
have been prevented with earlier diagnosis and treatment."
- Dr Clayton Golledge, Clinical
microbiologist and meningococcal disease specialist.
Meningococcal
disease is one of the most lethal infectious diseases known
to man, because of the terrifying speed with which it can
kill or maim, and the difficulty of early diagnosis - even
by experienced doctors. Early detection, and prompt treatment
with antibiotics, can mean the difference between life and
death. That's why we want to help you learn more about the
disease, how to recognise the signs, and know what to do if
you suspect you or your loved ones are at risk.

'Surviving meningococcal disease'
We
have also produced a one hour television documentary, which
we are currently offering to TV networks for screening this
winter. Eight people who survived the disease (and two families
whose children died) share their stories in detail, and provide
vital information which will help others to recognise the
disease and act in time to save a life (or limbs). For further
information, call Producer/Director Kay Stammers at Media
One, Sydney: (02) 9904 1722 or email info@mediaone.com.au
