The editor of the Daily Southern Cross, David Luckie, published a hoax report of a Russian invasion of Auckland by the cruiser Kaskowiski (cask of whisky).

    On 28 November 1979, 257 people were killed when Air New Zealand Flight TE901 crashed into the side of Mt Erebus, Antarctica. In February 2011 104 family members of those lost in the Erebus disaster took part in a memorial flight to Scott Base. Read more
