OSA Recognition and Grants from the OSA Foundation

The Optical Society recognizes distinguished achievement in the field of optics and photonics through the presentation of awards and honors. The Society and the OSA Foundation (OSAF) also provide grants in support of education, research and technical programs.

Categories of recognition include:

Nominations are initiated by members and are reviewed by a committee of topic experts whose recommendations are submitted to the OSA Awards Committee. Ultimate approval is by the OSA Board of Directors.

For nomination forms, please visit OSA Awards Nomination or download information. Nominations are now open for most 2011 awards.

The deadline for receipt of most OSA award nominations is October 1. (Exceptions are the Paul F. Forman Engineering Excellence Awards, John Tyndall Award and Herbert Walther Award.)

Nominations received after the deadline or those that are incomplete will be held for consideration the following year. The next two consecutive committees automatically consider any nominee not selected for the award. Award recipients are announced in March of the year following the nomination deadline.

OSA's awards and medals program is endowed through the OSA Foundation (OSAF). For more information about the OSA Foundation, please contact staff at foundation@osa.org.
