Book Reviews
ERB-dom 58, May 72 reviews LORD TYGER and TARZAN
ALIVE and also discusses A FEAST UNKNOWN, LORD OF THE TREES/THE MAD GOBLIN and
TIME'S LAST GIFT. There is also a reprint of the New York Times book review of
TARZAN ALIVE which is less than favorable.
Moebius Trip Library 17 S.F. Echo, May 73 has a favorable
review of THE OTHER LOGG OF PHILEAS FOGG and a less favorable reveiw of THE
FABULOUS RIVERBOAT.
Science Fiction Review 13, May 75 has a review of
HADON OF ANCIENT OPAR. The reviewer liked the book but thought that Kwasin,
Hadon's rival was a more interesting character. This issue also contains the
letter that PJF sent in with his check to subscribe to the magazine. In the
letter, among other things he refers to the reviewers as imbeciles, but often
amusing imbeciles.
Delap's F&SF; Review, Nov 76 contains a review
of THE WIND WHALES OF ISHMAEL. The reviewer liked the beginning of the book
but was then disappointed with the predictability of the rest of the adventure
type story.
Whizzard, Winter 76. There is a review of the first
WEIRD HEROES, Farmer's Greatheart Silver is listed as the low point in the book
(it was my least favorite of the Greatheart stories). There is also an unfavorable
discussion of his Doc Savage biography.
Wold Atlas, Vol 1, No 1, Jan 77. The Debut issue reviews,
THE PEERLEES PEER, A FEAST UNKNOWN and MOTHER WAS A LOVELY BEAST as well as
other Wold related, non Farmer written, books.
Diversifier, March 77 has a favorable review of
FLIGHT TO OPAR and an unfavorable review of IRONCASTLE.
Analog, Dec 77 has a long review of THE DARK
DESIGN. Not only does it discuss the new story and it's publishing problems
but also talks about the previous two books and their publishing history.
Time, July 28, 1980 reviews the MAGIC LABYRINTH and touches on the
series as a whole. The reviewer liked the series and the book but was
dissapointed by the ending.
Locus #352, May 1990 reviews ALIEN SEX and
it speaks highly of The Jungle Rot Kid on the Nod but
appreciates its (short) length.
Locus #354, July 1990 has a fairly favorable review of DAYWORLD BREAKUP
and the whole Dayworld Series.
