Welcome to the Institute of Social Psychology at LSE How do societies think? How are identities produced and reproduced, transformed and renewed in social life? How do groups relate and communicate? What is the power of community, of active minorities, of social influence and attribution? How do people manage impressions and construct a sense of self? How are attitudes, representations and beliefs formed and transformed?

Professor George Gaskell

Kurt Lewin, one of the founders of empirical social psychology, said that "there is nothing so practical as good theory". This maxim characterises the approach of the Institute, the joint exploration of concepts and theory with the study of social issues - societal psychology writ large.

Welcome to the Institute of Social Psychology

We are a leading international centre dedicated to consolidating and expanding the contribution of social psychology to the understanding and knowledge of key social, economic, political and cultural issues.

Through teaching, research and intervention in both academia and beyond we are committed to following the steps of the LSE pioneers who inspired generations around the globe to pursue the societal and cultural approach to psychology.
