California Department of Forestry in Cooperation with the Ramona Municipal Water District Since 1993

A department of the

Ramona Municipal Water District

 In Cooperation with

The California Department of Forestry and Fire

The Ramona Fire Department is a cooperative agreement between the California Department of Forestry and The Ramona Water District covering over 75 square miles of the Ramona service boundary  the largest unincorporated area in San Diego County. The Fire Department provides Fire Suppression and Emergency Medical for an estimated 40,000 residents.

In 1981, the Ramona Fire District was consolidated into the Ramona Municipal Water District. As fire service needs became more sophisticated and costly, the District sought a more economic method of providing fire protection services at an affordable cost to the community.  The option chosen was to enter into a contract with the California Department of Forestry (CDF) to provide fire/paramedic personnel to the District.  Today fire/paramedic personnel wear the badges of the CDF and Ramona Fire Department on their uniforms.

Fire protection no longer is just about putting out fires.  Fire services today include what is often the most visible of all fire activities, that of paramedic services.  Additionally, much time is spent preventing fires from occurring.  Prevention includes services such as: on-site inspection of all businesses in the community as well as weed abatement inspections.

The Ramona Fire Department enforces local and county fire ordinances. We utilize Fire Prevention Services to inspect parcels and site property owners who are out of compliance with local ordinances. Fire Prevention Services is under the direct supervision of the Ramona Fire Marshal. The Fire Marshal personally inspects every parcel which is slated for violation enforcement. Violation enforcement will not occur without proper documentation and the Fire Marshal's approval.

Questions concerning weed abatement can be directed to the Fire Department Secretary at (760) 788-2250 Monday thru Friday 8am-4pm.

There are three fire stations located strategically throughout Ramona.  Known as stations 80, 81, and 82, these stations house personnel and equipment 24 hours a day, 365 days every year.
