Thirteen Senses - Contact
Artist profile: Thirteen Senses

Release Date: 02/04/07
Label: Mercury
Rating: ****

Thirteen Senses have crash-landed back to earth with new album 'Contact', which has infinitely more personality than their last offering, 'The Invitation'. Whilst their first album had only two stand-out tracks, singles 'Into The Fire' and 'Thru The Glass', these were sadly submerged in mediocre filler. In contrast, 'Contact' manages to cram numerous potential singles between commendable b-side material. That's right folks, there's no filler here.

Opening track 'Contact' starts off on the vein of 'Into The Fire', with a foreboding piano intro that resembles the funeral march, but ends up leaving you far from dead inside.

Single 'All The Love In Your Hands' brings together soaring falsetto vocals and a climactic chorus that U2 would pat themselves on the back for producing, ensuring a festival anthem that could easily be as chantable as Snow Patrol's 'Run'. Will South's demand to "call someone to let them know how good you feel" encapsulates this album's sentiments perfectly, as these 11 tracks add up to an album that puts a skip in your heart and your step.

Despite intermittently resembling a less-stale version of Embrace, these guys are far from being an audio depiction of grey. This band have all 13 of their senses switched on and they're all as sharp as each other.
