Homecoming Parade – Plano – Returning home to a celebratory hero’s welcome made me feel like a million bucks. I only wish all Vietnam veterans could have experienced the same sense of pride and admiration for their service. The Plano parade was the first of many and meant even more to our family because countless friends and strangers prayed for my safe and swift return while wearing a POW bracelet etched with my name. Truly a humbling and beautiful day and this memory holds a special place in my heart.

Texas State House – Austin – Deeply grateful for the freedom and leadership bestowed upon me to lead the Pledge of Allegiance while serving in the Texas State House. My mangled right hand served as a brutal reminder of the inhumane treatment I survived during my Hell on Earth in Hanoi as a Prisoner of War.
