Practical Examples in Metalcasting Design

The metalcasting engineer and the component design engineer work together to insure that the component design is optimized for performance, manufacturability, and cost To work effectively with the metalcasting engineer, the design engineer and the component purchaser need to be familiar with the practices and terms of metalcasting.

These metalcasting examples are designed to illustrate the terminology, design practices, and manufacturing issues involved in the selection, design, purchase, and use of metalcastings.

Design and industrial engineers, purchasing agents, and engineering students will find these metalcasting examples a convenient and useful method of learning how metalcastings are designed and what benefits metalcasting technology offers to the manufacturing community.

As SFSA and AFS build the portfolio of metalcasting examples, a wide range of applications, geometries, alloys, and casting methods will be presented for study.
