Alden is located in southwestern Rice [RC] County not far north of the Arkansas River. As you come into Alden from the south, there is an interesting palisade made somewhat like early settlers made corrals and stock pens. Downtown, the Alden State bank is located in a nicely restored group of brick buildings.Built in the early years of the 20th century, the Township Hall in Alden has served as a center of the community. It was renovated in the 70's by almost all volunteer labor including central heat & air, restrooms, and a small kitchen. The Hall has been the site for many meetings reunions, parties, and other community functions. The second floor, once a lodge meeting area, now displays items from the many uses of the Townshop Hall during its long history.
The Santa Fe Depot in Alden was built in 1884, moved once to allow for the extension of Pioneer Street, then moved again after the railroad stopped passenger service in 1965. At one time in the 1930's sixteen trains stopped here each day. Now, it's a museum; call (620) 534-2425 for more information.
