Brief Character History

Jason is the illegitimate son of Alan Quartermaine and his mistress, Susan Moore. After Susan's murder, Alan brought Jason home to be raised under his roof. Initially, Monica was reluctant to welcome the motherless child into her home but eventually she grew to love him deeply. In many ways, Monica loved Jason more deeply than her own biological son, AJ.

In 1991 Jason returned home from boarding school and took his place in the family fold. Before long, Jason became involved with fellow classmate, Karen Wexler. She was a troubled young woman with an alcoholic mother and a secret life as a stripper in Sonny Corinthos' club. She was also in love with Jagger Cates.

By 1995, Jason found new love with Keesha Ward. During a spring break holiday in Paris, Jason and Keesha made love. It was the first time for both. Their relationship flourished until one tragic night. Intent on stopping AJ from driving drunk, Jason got into a car with his brother. The accident that followed left Jason with permanent brain damage and no memory whatsoever of his family or of Keesha. Jason couldn't stand the way people looked at him after the accident, always hoping to see some glint of recognition in his eyes. He pushed both his relatives and Keesha away, went to work for mobster Sonny Corinthos, and changed his name to Jason Morgan (his adopted paternal grandmother's maiden name). His birthday, he would declare, wasn't the day he was born but the day of the accident. The one person who was able to get through to Jason was his old high school classmate, Robin Scorpio. She was patient with him and had no expectations. She just accepted him for who he was--not for who he used to be. What began as a friendship turned into a deep and abiding love, but there was a complication: All the while Jason was falling for Robin, he was sleeping with scheming Carly Roberts. When he ended their affair, she threatened to blab to Robin. But Carly was all talk; she was just hurt that Jason didn't want her.

Soon, life radically changed for Jason. After Sonny left Brenda Barrett standing at the altar, Jason became the man in control of Sonny's empire. Jason also became a father unexpectedly when Carly broke up with Tony Jones and claimed that Jason was the father of her unborn child. Jason knew he wasn't since he'd been with Carly well before she'd gotten pregnant but he supported her lie when Carly pled her case to him. Jason's adopted brother AJ was really father, though he'd blacked out during his one-night stand with Carly. She feared that AJ would take her child away from her. After Carly gave birth to her son, Jason took the child into his care when she left town suffering from postpartum depression. Robin told Jason that she didn't believe it was right for him to keep the truth from AJ, but eventually agreed not to interfere in his life. After a brush with danger, Jason realized that he could not wait for Carly to return in order to provide for the baby's future. He arranged to have the baby baptized and named Emily and Sonny's dad Mike as his godparents. The Quartermaines crashed the baptism and were flabbergasted when Jason named the baby Michael after Jason's mentor Sonny. Happily, Carly returned just in time to witness her son's happy day.

Carly decided it was best to move in with Jason so that her son could adjust to being around her. Jason's newfound happiness with Carly and Michael didn't last. An unstable Tony kidnapped Michael. Tony held Robin captive when she realized what he had done. Jason rescued Michael and Robin, breaking Tony's hand and ending his surgical career in the process. Carly shot Tony after he received a light sentence, but he survived, and she was committed to a mental hospital, leaving Michael once again in Jason's care.

To celebrate their recommitment to one another, Robin, Jason, and Michael moved into Brenda's old cottage and became a pseudo-family. Jason managed to extricate himself from the mob (or so he thought) and they settled into a happy life together. Unable to desert his friend, Jason pulled some strings and arranged for Carly to be released from the mental hospital and she moved into the cottage with them. This arrangement did not last long as Carly and Robin constantly argued. Ultimately, Robin left, but not before telling AJ that Michael was really his son.

AJ began to pursue his paternity rights, insisting upon a blood test for Michael. Jason and Carly made plans to leave the country with Michael but, after Jason and Michael had already left, Carly panicked and went to the Quartermaines with a story about how Jason had kidnapped Michael. Sonny let Jason know that Carly had stabbed him in the back and Jason returned to Port Charles to find out what was going on. Carly told him her plan to get AJ to drink again and take full custody of Michael in a divorce. She told Jason the plan would take about a year. He thought she was crazy but reluctantly went along with the idea.

Carly married AJ and, after a hearing, they were forced to share custody with Jason. Soon, Jason began to feel that his anger toward AJ would confuse Michael, and he terminated his own custody rights for Michael's sake. As time went by, Jason began to recognize that he had deep feelings for Carly, and she began to return his affection. When Carly was ready to leave AJ for Jason (unbeknownst to Jason), she found Jason dancing lovingly with Elizabeth Webber, whom he was, in reality, comforting over the death of her fianc, Lucky Spencer.

Misinterpreting the situation, Carly went to Jason's best friend, Sonny Corinthos, to interrogate him about Jason's connection to Liz. Caught up in his own anger at his girlfriend Hannah for not telling him she was an FBI agent sent to bring him down, Carly and Sonny ended up having angry sex. Jason walked in on them "the morning after" while they traded insults and was devastated.

Having been shot minutes before in an ambush by a rival mob king, Jason stumbled to Lucky Spencer's deserted boxcar, where he fell outside in the snow. Liz found him, frozen and bleeding, and dragged him to the boxcar. She went to Sonny and Bobbie, and they helped Jason who refused to speak to Sonny--or to go to the hospital. Liz took him to her art studio to heal.

They formed a fast friendship while he healed and, later, he moved back into his penthouse. When a bomb, which Roy DiLucca defused, was set in Liz's studio Jason decided that the people he loved were in danger as long as he was around. Carly was constantly trying to win him back, which drove him crazy.

Jason had established a tentative working relationship with Sonny, so he went to Sonny and told him that he would leave town and give him power of attorney to oversee all assets that had been put in trust for Michael. Jason told Sonny, Emily, Lila, Monica, and Elizabeth good-bye and road into the sunset on his motorcycle.

Jason visited in August 2000 to track down Emily after she had been kidnapped. He was also more accepting of Sonny and Carly's relationship at this time, advising them to be together.

In January 2001, he returned to help Sonny bring down mob boss Joseph Sorel. Good friend Liz Webber helped him hide out during his first days back in Port Charles. She didn't want to be a model for Laura's company, but felt obligated to. Jason listened to her and told her he'd support whatever decision she made. He soon realized he had very strong feelings for her, and her feelings for him were mutual. However, Liz had a tough choice to make: should she choose longtime love Lucky or Jason. Jason then left town to hide out from Sorel.

Jason returned about a year later and began dating Liz Webber. On Sonny's orders, Jason kept a watch out for Sonny's sister Courtney Matthews, who was married to AJ and working as a stripper. Jason saved Courtney from the grimy elements of the club and helped her try to identify the man who was stalking her. Although Courtney had hated Jason because of his ties to the mob, they eventually became friends. Their relationship developed into something deeper as they worked together, but she was still in love with AJ. However, in the fall of 2002, they discovered that an insecure AJ was her stalker.

Courtney turned to Jason. Hurt after learning that Jason had let her believe Sonny was murdered when in truth he was alive and well, Liz ended things with Jason. He began dating Courtney in secret because they feared Sonny would not approve. Meanwhile, Jason was arrested with back-from-the-dead Brenda Barrett for killing Luis Alcazar. The longtime bickering friends married so they wouldn't have to testify against each other. The charges were eventually dropped and the couple annulled their marriage with a pang of regret. Courtney and Jason got engaged.

When Sonny learned of the relationship, he was furious, but he grew to accept their relationship. On the couple's wedding day, a pregnant Carly was kidnapped. The wedding was postponed while all attention was diverted to finding her. Michael told Jason that Sonny's half-brother and foe Ric Lansing had taken her. Sonny and Courtney didn't believe him, but Jason did. After a few months he proved Michael's suspicions correct. Unfortunately, by the time Sonny and Jason burst into Ric's panic room to save Carly, she was gone.

Luis Alcazar's brother, Lorenzo, had kidnapped her. To appease Lorenzo, Jason and Sonny began running drugs through their operation, per his orders, all the while planning to free Carly. Unbeknownst to Jason, Courtney discovered she was pregnant. She kept the news to herself because of his ambivalence about having children during such a dangerous period.

Jason, Sonny, and Ric went to South America to rescue Carly, with Courtney following behind them. Alcazar found her first and held her hostage, demanding an exchange: Courtney for Carly. Jason and Sonny reluctantly left Courtney behind and returned home with Carly. Courtney escaped and miscarried in the process. Back home, Jason sensed that something had happened to her in South America and wondered if Alcazar had done something to her.

She finally confessed that she had been pregnant but lost the baby when she escaped. Unable to find comfort from Jason, Courtney briefly turned to pain pills. While under the influence one night, she ran Elizabeth down with her car but didn't remember doing so later. Eventually the crime was covered up and Elizabeth decided not to press charges as a favor to Jason.

Jason and Courtney finally exchanged vows during a trip to France but their married life got off to a rocky start with little privacy and little time for just the two of them. When Carly lapsed into a coma after she was accidentally shot by Sonny while giving birth, Courtney took care of Carly's children, and Jason took care of Sonny's business. Courtney became increasingly intolerant of the violence in their lives. She and Jason separated following Sonny's attempt to kill Alcazar.

Jason was hurt when Courtney attended the opening of Luke Spencer's Haunted Star with her new detective friend Brian. But Jason quickly became suspicious and warned Courtney that Brian was only using her to get information about Sonny and Jason's mob dealings. Courtney refused to believe him and insisted that she was just friends with Brian.

After Carly awoke from her come, she couldn't seem to control her feelings for Alcazar. Jason held Alcazar hostage in the Panic Room to keep him away from Carly. Jason was supportive of Carly when she checked herself into a mental hospital in an effort to forget about Alcazar. While suffering from the effects of a hallucinogenic drug, Carly stabbed Jason with a syringe of the same drug.

Jason wandered off and found his way back to the love nest he had shared with Courtney. She found him and he showered her with kisses but later didn't remember doing so. Courtney saved Jason during an ambush on the docks by the cops. Brian aimed his gun at Jason, so Courtney shot Brian. after Zander became the suspect in the shooting, Courtney planned to come clean to the cops, But Jason insisted she keep quiet.

During a fire at the Port Charles Hotel, Jason found Carly and they shared a tender moment before trying to find their way out of the burning building. After Jason got Carly to safety, Ric, serving as D.A., had him arrested for shooting Brian during the fire. A crooked cop handcuffed Jason to a stair railing and left him there to die in the fire. But Nikolas found him and saved him.

All of them survived the fire, but nothing changed in the custody battle between Carly and Sonny but after Sonny's limo exploded, he gave full custody of the children to Carly. Jason still believed the kids should have both parents in their lives.

When Courtney purchased the property that Sonny and Jason on which Sonny's warehouse sat, she refused to allow mob dealings on her property. She quickly realized it wouldn't work and sold the property-to Alcazar! Jason felt betrayed by her decision, but he still entertained hopes of reconciling with Courtney. However, all hope for the couple was lost when Courtney knocked Jason out to keep him from killing Alcazar. Although they briefly bonded over Michael as he recovered following a fall into a well, they ultimately finalized their divorce.

When Jason found out through Emily that Sam, Sonny's ex-mistress, was pregnant, he implored Sam to tell Sonny. Sam stalled, and Jason threatened to tell Sonny himself. Eventually Sonny learned of the pregnancy, and Jason offered to marry Sam to protect them. Sam reluctantly agreed, but changed her mind at the last moment and ran off to a convent to have her baby and give it up for adoption. Sonny discovered Sam's plan and searched for her. He sent Jason to try to find her elsewhere. Jason found Sam and brought her back to Port Charles. He offered to take care of her and the baby.

At first Sam told him that she was no longer pregnant, but she experienced excessive cramping which forced her to tell him the truth. Jason offered his protection again and, this time, Sam agreed to move in with him. Initially, Sonny seemed to be okay with the arrangement, but he intended to be a part of his child's life and felt increasingly threatened by the relationship growing between Jason and Sam. It was also clear that Sam was hiding something else from them, and Jason and Carly (working separately) decided to find out what it was.

Carly learned that Sam was wanted for murder in Florida, where she had been convicted for killing her mother after setting her mother's house on fire. Sam admitted to the arson, explaining that she did not know her mother was in the home. Things seemed to make sense but Sam began to regularly disappear and Jason discovered that she was making a visit to someone. Barging in on them, Jason discovered that the man Sam was visiting was her mentally challenged brother.

Danny, it turned out, had really set the fire and Sam was trying to protect him. To make the charges disappear, Sonny paid a man on death row to admit to the fire, while Jason arranged for Danny to be sent to a specialized facility that could help him and keep him safe.

Sam and Jason continued to live together relatively quietly. Jason went with Sam to her doctor appointments and was there for her after Sonny asked her to induce her labor two weeks early so that Sonny's other daughter, Kristina Davis, could use the unborn child's stem cells to cure her of leukemia. Sam refused the request, explaining that the risk to the fetus was too much. Later, during a particularly heated argument, Sam went into premature labor and collapsed. She was rushed to the ER but the baby was stillborn.

Dr. Steven Lars Webber explained that it had been an unforeseen complication of pregnancy, not a result of stress from the argument. While Sam remained unconscious, Jason was the only person to hold the baby. He kissed her and told her she was loved before continuing his vigil at Sam's bedside. When Sam awoke and learned of her baby's death, she was inconsolable. Jason helped her understand that the baby's death was no one's fault and that the baby's life did mean something, because her stem cells saved Kristina's life. Sam eventually found comfort in that, but was still overwhelmed with grief after leaving the hospital.

As Sam began dealing with the loss of her daughter she and Jason grew closer. Then they met Bridget, a pregnant teenager who wasn't prepared to be a mother. After helping Bridget deliver a healthy baby girl, Sam and Jason brought the baby home and named her Hope. They made plans to marry, but Bridget had a change of heart and decided she wanted to raise her baby after all. Sam was devastated when she was forced to give the baby up.

Soon thereafter, Faith Roscoe kidnapped little Kristina. All eyes of suspicion turned to Sam who was in an emotional tailspin. When Michael and Morgan disappeared things went from bad to worse. In a race against time, Jason and Sam teamed up to find the missing children. It had been an elaborate plan devised by AJ Quartermaine to get his hands on his son, Michael.

Morgan and Kristina soon reunited with their parents but after a bloody shootout, evidence was found that indicated that Michael had been murdered. Eventually, evidence led Jason and Sam to AJ. After narrowly missing AJ in the Bahamas, Jason and Sam returned to Port Charles where, with Skye's help, they managed find AJ. When Jason caught up to AJ at the Quartermaine mansion, he and his brother struggled and tumbled over the railing. AJ 's back was broken. Shortly thereafter, AJ was found murdered in his hospital bed.

In time, it was revealed that, while AJ was strapped down to his bed and sedated, Michael slipped into his room and tried to smother him. However, he was interrupted when he heard a noise. Michael hid while Dr. Thomas sneaked into the room, picked up a pillow and finished the job that Michael had started.

After AJ's death, Jason began experiencing painful headaches and memory lapses. Sam encouraged him to see a doctor. As the incidents increased in frequency, a desperate Jason resorted to taking experimental drugs--despite the threat of serious side effects which included death. While the drugs helped Jason begin to recover memories, his health quickly declined.

Sam turned to Robin for help. Robin had become a leading researcher, specializing in experimental drug therapies, but Jason needed surgery. Robin arranged for Patrick Drake to come to General Hospital and perform a high-risk surgery. It was a gamble that paid off. Jason made a full recovery, much to Sam's delight. Their love was stronger than ever and they looked forward to a happy future. Unfortunately, Manny Ruiz stood in the way.

Manny Ruiz was the homicidal son of a mobster who was instantly obsessed with Sam McCall. Manny shot Sam while she was in Jason's arms. While Sam lingered in a coma fighting for her life, Jason convinced himself that the only way to really love Sam was to let her go so that she would never again be hurt by the violence in his life. The woman who would turn out to be Sam's mother, Alexis Davis, fully supported the decision. Even before Alexis learned that Sam was her daughter, she felt that Jason was bad for Sam.

When Sam emerged from her coma, Jason walked away. Sam was stunned and deeply hurt. She tried to tell Jason that it was her choice whether or not being with him was worth the risk. Jason refused to bend, and Sam grew frustrated. Angry and wanting to lash out, Sam turned to Ric one night after a particularly heated argument with her mother. As Ric and Sam started drinking and talking, one thing led to another, and they ended up having sex in the living room.

Alexis arrived at the lake house and saw what was going on in her living room. Jason, having decided to reconcile with Sam, arrived at the lake house soon after Alexis. Not wanting Jason to know what Sam and Ric were doing, Alexis faked a coughing spell and had Jason take her to the hospital. But her returned not long after and witnessed Sam and Ric in flagrante through the window of the front door. Disgusted, he left and returned to his penthouse.

He started drinking when a knock interrupted him. Jason was surprised to see Elizabeth standing on his doorstep. They'd reconnected as friends since Sam's shooting and had grown quite close. Jason was even more surprised when Elizabeth told him about Lucky's drug addiction and his ongoing affair with Maxie Jones. As they started talking, Jason reached out to Elizabeth and kissed her. One thing led to another and they spent the remainder of the night making love. By the next morning, both realized that a relationship would never work.

Sam, filled with remorse, went to Jason and confessed to sleeping with Ric. Jason told Sam that he already knew and admitted to turning to Elizabeth after what he'd witnessed in Alexis's living room. Sam was hurt but realized she wasn't in any position to judge. Despite the hurt, both Jason and Sam decided that they wanted to give their relationship another try

Soon, however, Elizabeth realized that she was pregnant. It turned out that the condoms that she and Jason had used were recalled by ELQ because they were faulty. Jason asked Elizabeth to marry him if the baby turned out to be his, but Elizabeth turned down the proposal. She didn't think their marriage could work because they both loved other people.

A paternity test revealed that Jason was the father of Elizabeth's baby. She went to Jason's penthouse to tell him, not realizing that Sonny had told Carly that Jason was not the father. Carly raced to Jason's penthouse to deliver the happy news. Elizabeth was taken aback when she learned that Carly had told Jason he wasn't the father. Sam walked in, and a relieved Jason shared the news with her. Not wanting to rock the boat, Elizabeth decided to let everyone believe Lucky was the father. She thought it was for the best, especially since Lucky had decided to go into rehab upon hearing that Elizabeth was pregnant. Not knowing that Elizabeth and Jason had slept together, Lucky had no reason to suspect he wasn't the father.

What Elizabeth didn't know was that Jason was actually disappointed to learn he wasn't the baby's father. Elizabeth kept her secret, even after she divorced Lucky. Sam's desire to start a family with Jason was stronger than ever while Jason was reluctant. He felt that his life was too violent for children. Sam was hurt but persistent. Eventually she convinced Jason, but getting pregnant forced Sam to seek out medical help.

When she learned that the injuries she sustained after she'd been shot by Manny Ruiz resulted in an inability to carry a child to term, Sam kept quiet. She looked into other option, including hiring a surrogate to carry her baby to term. However, her plans were interrupted when The Metro Court Hotel was seized by armed gunmen.

Jason and Damien Spinelli worked together to try to rescue the hostages, including Sam, Elizabeth, Emily, and Alan. Disguised as one of the gunmen, Jason did nothing while his father. Alan Quartermaine, suffered a massive heart attack. Emily was forced by the gunmen to make the choice whether to release Elizabeth, who was experiencing painful contractions, or to get Alan medical attention. Elizabeth told Emily to choose Alan, who was allowed to leave. He started to collapse and Jason helped him out of the lobby. That was the last time Jason saw his father alive.

After the Metro Court hostage situation came to an explosive end, Elizabeth and Jason found themselves trapped inside an elevator. Unable to continue to keep her secret from Jason, she told him that the child she was carrying was his. Jason was hurt that she hadn't told him sooner, but he understood why. He decided that they needed to tell Sam and Lucky the truth as soon as they made it out.

They survived and Jason and Sam were reunited. When Sam confessed that she was unable to ever have children, Jason couldn't bring himself to tell her that Elizabeth was carrying his child. Later, Elizabeth came to Jason with the news that she'd decided to remarry Lucky and asked Jason if he would allow Lucky to raise the baby as his own.

Jason realized that it would be best for his child if the baby grew up in a stable, loving home with a family not surrounded by violence. He trusted Elizabeth to do what was best for their child and agreed to comply with her wishes. Despite both claiming to be just friends, it was clear that they each felt more.

Jason and Sam began to grow apart from each other. Jason was preoccupied with thoughts of Elizabeth and their child, while Sam desperately tried to keep an ugly secret from her past from catching up with her. Sensing the distance between them, Sam grew desperate.

Sonny, fed up with Lorenzo, ordered Jason to kill him. Instead of carrying out the order, Jason went by Elizabeth's house and found her unconscious. She'd gone into labor and began hemorrhaging. Jason scooped her up and drove her to the hospital where he watched in horror as the doctor's raced to deliver the baby and save Elizabeth. After his son's birth, Elizabeth's condition remained grave.

Jason had promised Elizabeth that, if anything happened to her, he would step up and claim his son. He was on the verge of doing so when she awoke from her coma. She named their son Jacob Martin, silently honoring Jason by giving their son his initials.

Jason resumed his life as Sonny's enforcer. With Skye's help, Jason managed to get Alcazar alone and kill him. Neither Skye nor Jason realized at the time that Lorenzo had kept the room monitored and that audio was recorded of Lorenzo's voice Lorenzo uttering "Morgan," followed by two muffled shots. Seconds later, the sound of a thud, as if an adult body had hit the ground, was heard.

Lorenzo's sudden disappearance didn't go unnoticed. Ric began investigating and soon found the recording. He had Jason arrested for murder. While Jason was in jail, Jake was kidnapped by a grieving mother who had lost her infant daughter in a fire. Sam, who had learned the truth about Jake when she overheard a conversation between Jason and Elizabeth, witnessed the kidnapping and told no one.

Sam knew where Maureen, the woman who kidnapped Jake, could be found. Everyone began looking at Elizabeth as a possible suspect, thinking that she was suffering from postpartum depression and had harmed Jake and covered up her crime. Jason refused to believe it and grew angry at Lucky for having such little faith in Elizabeth. When Jason was released on bail, he immediately began searching for his son.

Amelia Joffe, Sam's boss, was ultimately the one who figured out where Jake was. She had called Maureen and heard a baby crying on several occasions. Knowing her baby had died, she told Jason about the phone calls. They raced over to Maureen's house and quickly recovered Jake. Before Jason left, Maureen told him that Sam had seen her take Jake. She had assumed Sam was the one who had told Jason where to find his son.

Jason quickly returned Jake to Elizabeth. As Jason watched the reunion, Lucky walked in. As Lucky questioned Jason about how he'd found Jake, he realized that Jason had jumped bail. He had Jason taken back into custody. Elizabeth was furious with Lucky.

As Jason's trial approached, Elizabeth continued to visit him frequently, which put more of a strain on her marriage. Meanwhile, Jason shared the truth about Sam's actions with Sonny who talked to Sam. Realizing she had to face Jason sooner or later, Sam went to visit him in prison. They revealed all of the secrets they'd been keeping from each other and it became clear that their relationship was over.

Sam left after Jason threatened to make sure the police learned of her role in Jake's kidnapping if she didn't leave Elizabeth alone. The warning only fueled Sam's hatred for Elizabeth. When Jason finally went on trial for Lorenzo Alcazar's murder, Elizabeth was forced to testify about her night with Jason because she knew that Ric had proof of the affair.

Months earlier Cruz Rodriquez had told her that Jason's penthouse had been bugged, and they had recorded a conversation between her and Jason in which they talked about their night together. However, Elizabeth lied about Jake's paternity when Ric questioned her. Lucky was in the courtroom and heard for the first time that his wife had cheated on him.

He was crushed and it was the beginning of the end of their marriage. Eventually, Jason was found not guilty when Carly enlisted Jerry Jacks plant evidence that Lorenzo was still alive. As the man's body had never been recovered there was nothing to dispute the evidence.

With her marriage crumbling and Jason a free man, Sam realized that Elizabeth might be tempted to put her fears aside and be a family with Jason. Sam arranged for two armed goons to pretend to be enemies of Jason and kidnap Elizabeth and her children in the park. Before they could get away with the kidnapping, Sam would come to the rescue and scare them off. Elizabeth was on her way to see Jason for talk to him about their relationship. Sam's plan went off without a hitch.

When Jason learned of the attempted adduction he immediately began investigating and soon uncovered that Sam was behind the plot. Jason went to see Sam and coldly stated that if she ever harmed Elizabeth and the children again, he would kill her. At first Sam didn't believe him but soon, she realized that Jason was very serious about the threat.

Sam watched but said nothing when she saw Jake, get kidnapped. Jason found his son with the help of Sam's boss, Amelia Joffe. Upon Jake's safe return, Jason and Elizabeth admitted their mutual love, as her marriage to Lucky dissolved.

At the Black and White Ball, thrown by Nikolas and Emily to announce their engagement, a storm hit, the power went out, and the guests were stranded on Spoon Island with two homicidal maniacs on the loose. During a confrontation between Sam and Elizabeth, Sam told Elizabeth that she needed to tell Lucky the truth about Jake. Lucky walked in on them and asked Elizabeth to clarify Sam's statement. Jason arrived and confirmed that Jake was his son. Though stunned, Lucky agreed to keep the secret, for Jake's safety. Sam promised not to let anyone know the truth as well.

Jason discovered Nikolas holding Emily's bloodied body. Someone had killed her when Nikolas, suffering from a brain tumor, had blacked out. Jason had to tell Monica that Emily had been murdered. Monica angrily blamed Jason for Emily's death because she assumed that mob enemy, Anthony Zacchara, had done the deed. Later, it was revealed that the Text Message Killer had murdered Emily. Heartbroken over his sister's loss, shunned from the funeral, Jason and Elizabeth began to meet secretly. They became engaged but Michael, in a hit on Sonny arranged by Anthony's daughter, Claudia Zacchara, was shot and put into a coma. Jason and Elizabeth planned a trip to Italy but after Sonny's fiance, Kate Howard, was shot on their wedding day, Jason cancelled the trip. Reminded that his dangerous life would be a risk to anyone he loved, He ended his engagement to Elizabeth.

Sonny decided that he wanted to go legit and turned control of his business over to Jason. A war with the rival Russian mob began to escalate in November 2008. Jason agreed to Lucky's proposal to send Elizabeth and the boys, along with Sam, to hide in a cabin in the woods. During a shootout with Russians who had followed the women to the cabin, Jake was kidnapped once again. Sam returned with Jason to search for Jake, and they returned him safely to Elizabeth. Jason and Elizabeth once again vowed to never see each other again, for the safety of the boys.

After Sonny realized that he could not secede from the mob, he told Jason he wanted to resume control over the organization. Jason denied his request, so Sonny, unaware that it had been Claudia's fault that Michael had been shot and was in a permanent vegetative state, agreed to marry her in order to take over the Zacchara organization.

FBI Agent Rayner offered Jason blanket immunity in exchange for information on Sonny and Anthony--enough to arrest and prosecute them. Jason, of course, refused to give Sonny up. However, after Spinelli was set up by undercover agent Winifred Leeds, he was arrested for illegal activity, including treason. Jason agreed to Rayner's deal in order for Spinelli to be released without charges.

Fearing that anywhere he met with Sonny would be bugged, Jason furtively asked Sonny to quit working with the Zaccharas, but couldn't explain why. Sonny refused. Spinelli, with the help of Winifred and Sam, destroyed the evidence against him, rendering Agent Rayner powerless to coerce Jason. Jason and Sonny reconciled, and Jason allowed Sonny to resume control over the business.

In May 2009, after Michael came out of his coma, Jason began to suspect that Claudia was responsible for Michael's shooting, and obtained evidence that proved it. Michael had become an aggressive 17-year-old due to the brain damage. Jason refused to allow Michael to join Sonny's business and agreed with Carly that Michael should live at the Quartermaine Mansion, for his own good. Jason resumed a friendship with Sam, who had started a private detective agency with Spinelli.

After Michael and Kristina went on the run to Mexico because Michael believed that he'd run Claudia off the road which caused a miscarriage, Jason and Sam went to search for them. Claudia, wanting revenge for the death of her child with Sonny, called Jerry and asked him to find the kids.

Jerry caught up to Michael and Kristina and, pretending to help them, held them captive. However, they were able to escape. Jerry kidnapped Sam and held her hostage as bait to lure Jason to an abandoned church (though Sam was being kept elsewhere). During a shootout with Jerry, the building collapsed and trapped Jason underneath the rubble. Jerry shot Jason point blank before and left him to die.

Sam escaped and made her way to Jason. He developed an infection and she had to nurse him back to health for several days. They eventually found Michael and Kristina and returned to Port Charles. It later came out that Kristina had actually run Claudia off the road, but Claudia forgave her.

Jason gave Sonny the proof that Claudia had arranged the hit that put Michael into a coma for a year. At a lavish birthday party that Sonny had previously arranged for Claudia, he laid into her, publicly accusing her of being responsible for Michael's shooting. He vowed revenge. A desperate Claudia held a very pregnant Carly at gunpoint and forced her into a stolen car. Carly went into labor and begged Claudia to let her go but Claudia, becoming more unstable by the minute, refused.

On the road during a rainstorm, Carly grabbed the steering wheel and crashed the car. As Claudia was unconscious, Carly made her way to an empty cabin and hoped that she'd successfully give birth. Claudia found her way to the cabin and helped Carly deliver baby Josslyn.

But Claudia had lost her grip on reality and believed that she was the child's mother. As she began to leave with Josslyn in a basket, Carly pleaded with her not to take her baby. Michael walked in and reacted by grabbing an ax handle and striking Claudia in the head. Claudia fell to the floor, dead.

Jason and Sam arrived at the cabin and hatched a plan to cover up the incident. They called Sonny who tool Michael to his home. Sam took Carly and Josslyn to the hospital while Jason, with the aid of Sonny's bodyguards Max and Milo Giambetti, torched the cabin and buried Claudia's body.

As the adults in Michael's life worked to keep the truth from surfacing, a mysterious artist named Franco came to town. Franco was also a serial killer inexplicably enamored with Jason. He played a game of cat and mouse with Jason, terrorizing the people in Jason's life. He ultimately kidnapped Lulu Spencer, though he'd wanted to take Maxie, and Sam. He took each to locations at opposite ends of town and strapped both to bombs. Franco called Jason and forced him to make a choice. Jason was able to reach Dante in time to have him rescue Lulu while Jason saved Sam. Soon thereafter, Franco left town.

Federal prosecutor Claire Walsh gathered enough evidence to charge someone with Claudia's murder. To keep Michael from going to prison, Sonny confessed. During his trial, Michael confessed to Dante Falconeri, who had recently been revealed to be Sonny's eldest son. Michael provided Dante with the shirt he'd worn the night Claudia died. It had her blood on it. Dante burst into the courtroom and announced that Michael had accidentally killed Claudia in the process of saving his mother and newborn sister.

Judge Carroll, angry that the trial had been a farce and wanting to send a message to the mob, sentenced Michael to several years at Pentonville Prison. Jason made a deal with Claire to confess to several crimes, as long as he'd be sent to Pentonville and to share Michael's cell. But before Jason arrived to protect Michael, one of Franco's henchmen, Carter, raped Michael. Michael refused to admit what happened, but Jason suspected that Carter had traumatized Michael in some way.

Dante convinced the judge to rescind his sentence, and Michael was released into Dante's custody. Jason would have to serve the rest of his sentence but, when Franco resurfaced and began to leave a bloody trail, Claire had Jason released to help capture Franco. Franco, leaving clues based on the song "Route 66" lured Jason and Dante to Los Angeles where he'd planned an elaborate art opening. As Jason chased Franco up a staircase, Franco appeared to fall to his death.
