About the Crime Academy

Welcome to the Crime Academy section of this site. The Crime Academy was established by the Metropolitan Police Service in 2003 following the amalgamation of the Detective Training School, the Scientific Support College and the Analyst Training Unit. The origins of detective training at Hendon go back to 1935 and we have therefore inherited a rich legacy of excellence in training those in investigative roles of which we are justifiably proud and determined to build upon.

We are now considered to be one of the foremost training establishments for detectives, forensic practioners, crime analysts and those in investigative roles. Our standing as a provider of quality training is reflected in our having been awarded the coveted 'Skillsmark' by Skills for Justice.

Our prospectus can be viewed on this site. It shows the considerable breadth of training now available at the Crime Academy.

In addition to classroom based training the Crime Academy also imparts learning through a variety of mediums including seminars and conferences and our own computer based learning facility the 'Virtual Crime Academy'.

Whilst established to primarily provide training for Metropolitan Police personnel we take pride in having attracted students from several UK and overseas police forces as well as other law enforcement agencies'.

We were proud to be awarded Skillsmark in December 2007.
