LESLIE
PHILLIPS
|
|
|
Grand
old bounder of the cinema, Mr Phillips cut a dash throughout the
1960s playing the archetypal cad in countless British comedies.
Now 77, Mr Phillips still oozes charm and sophistication, though
he can be a tad grouchy at times. The Chap's Mr Temple recently
had the honour of working alongside the venerable Mr Phillips,
in a Radio 4 documentary on the history of the cad. Mr Phillips
insists that he was never a real cad himself, and would prefer
always to be remembered as a gentleman.

In
which type of clothing do you feel at your most seductive and alluring
to the ladies?
Something
terribly loose.
What items of clothing
do you consider the greatest offences against sartorial decency?
Short
sleeved shirts.
Do you have any strong
views on the fashions followed by today's youth?
No –
anything goes these days.
Is there any occasion
during which you might consider wearing plimsolls?
No –
they tend to damage one's instep.
Do you still sport a
pencil moustache?
Yes,
if you can spot it.
If so, does it require
a lot of maintenance?
No,
it's really very light work.
Do you believe there
is a place for any kind of beard in today's society?
Yes,
for the right part. It saves the use of spirit gum - horrid.
Are you a user of either
a mobile telephone or a portable gramophone?
Only
in extreme emergencies.
Would you like to see
a ban put on either of the above?
Only
if over-used.
Where the devil can
a fellow get a decent dry martini these days?
I'm
not actually into booze.
You have always been
known as something of a hit with the ladies. Any tips?
Let
them make the moves. |
