Family Guy: Play it Again, Brian - VIDEO

Family Guy(S06E10) Lois, Peter and Brian take a vacation to Martha's Vineyard. Peter drinks up a storm and Brian confesses his love for Lois. Hilarity ensues.

Seth McFarlane shows his Massachusetts background in this episode (his parents are from there). I saw references to Boston Harbor (the John Hancock building was in the background) and Six Flags New England (which is very close to Connecticut, the state where he was raised).

The show continues to explore Brian's artistic tendencies as he wins a writing award (we later learn the piece he wrote was mostly plagiarized). It's debatable if this is better or worse than the time he was a porn director.

There were two (Count 'em. Two.) references to the destruction of Lois' vagina. First, there was the flashback to Peter and Lois' wedding in which Peter responds to the request to kiss her, "Kiss her? I'm gonna destroy her." Later in the episode, Stewie admits that Lois' vagina was so destroyed that he saw graffiti and practically walked out of the birth canal. That's a little more about Lois than I actually wanted to know.

It's been said that Peter's character is a clone of Homer Simpson and I saw that a lot in this episode, between the drunken rants (including the marriage to Nathan Lane) and the forgetfulness towards his wife. I guess that's why I have such problems with his character because Homer Simpson does the style better. I suppose one could argue that it's more an exploration of an ethnic stereotype since Peter is of Irish descent.

Most of the supporting characters in the show weren't seen that much in this episode. It was more of a concentration on the Griffin family. All I saw with anyone else was the quick segment with Cleveland as a Black Box dancer (I wonder if that is the premise of the spin-off series that is being planned?).

Seth McFarlane once again went into his love of musical theater by doing two songs this episode (one as Brian singing "As Time Goes By" and one as Peter singing "The Spirit of Massachusetts.") I think the Nathan Lane "appearance" could be taken as a nod to that as well.

I honestly thought that the whole Brian-infatuation-with-Lois subplot had run its course, but obviously it hasn't. I did like the Peter/Brian fight because I think mindless cartoon violence is funny.

FINALLY, someone in the show has figured out that Herbert the Pervert is a pedophile. I do wonder if the creators will go any further with that discovery, or will it be forgotten in future episodes. Even better, it's the dumbest person on the show, Chris (Peter is a close second). Yet for all his attempts to sleep with Chris throughout the episode, they still manage to dis Meg.

Overall, a good episode. I particularly liked the Disney-style ending. The show itself reopened and furthered some of the slowly-developing subplots in the Family Guy universe and proves that it is willing to go places that The Simpsons considers beneath itself.

i thought this episode was pretty funny. i hollered at the Fruit-Striped Gum and Black Box Dancer gags. there were a couple of unfunny gags (Massachussetts), and i feel like the episode as a whole could have been better if the B plot was switched with the main plot, but it still had me laughing. but i have one question: was it Seth MacFarland singing the last song in the episode? sounded like his voice.

Man, you people are harsh. It's just a cartoon, and you're analyzing every detail like it's CSI or something. Just watch it and laugh. That's what I do.

And if you don't think it's funny anymore, stop watching and commenting about it. You're spamming the page up.

"Just watch it and laugh. That's what I do."

Sorry, I didn't know I was supposed to be a mindless moron while I watch TV.

By the way, I have taken Family Guy off my Tivo list after this episode. So I guess only people that like Family Guy can comment on posts? Yeaaaaah. That makes a TON of sense.

I am sick of Herbert, we get it, he's and old pedophile, now move on. I know family guy likes to use some jokes a little excessively but this dude was only funny the first two times he appeared, after that he became almost unbearable.

Um, just a note to Michael (Post #1) -- Stewie left the graffiti in Lois' vagina - not Brian. (I was surprised that Stewie didn't make a joke about seeing a KISS logo inside the womb.

LOL at the guy who wants to put Brian down because he's a dog and it cant be believed he'd be in love with Lois...

Maggie Simpson has been mute and the same size for like 20 years! She obviously has some sort of chromosomal abnormality, how come they never take her to a specialist?? And Homer should have radiation poisoning by now, and he's had like what, 3 different heart attacks but isn't an invalid? Wile E. Coyote fell off a damn cliff! Yet he still comes back!! WTF!!!!!

What I really love is people who hate tv shows and still continue to watch them. As for the Homer/Peter thing I really think there are hundreds of writers before the creation of Homer that would like to take credit for the drunk unappreciative husband.

I laughed a couple of times but it is so god damn apparent that there was a premise and NO idea whatsoever how to come to a conclusion. The problem: we had the "Brian loves Lois" and "Peter is a fat idiot who doesn't appreciate his wife" premise since the beginning of the show and it's getting tedious. At one time I really really tried to put myself in Brians position (AGAIN!) and I just couldn't do it because He is a dog - period. To be honest I have been in love with a woman who's been in a relationship with a friend before and it would have made all the difference needed if she would've been a dog ;-)

I simply can't stand it anymore that they put themselves in a situation and then at the end of the episode don't have a resolution at all. They show the typical "so, I'm sorry, let's get back to living together as a family" bit and at a certain point it's just not believable anymore. Brian did this how many times now? Four? Five? He will always behave like that and to be honest I would've put him down long ago or given him away. And it now bores me to death to see this on FG just as much as the Pedophile stuff. It's just not funny anymore.

This was the worst episode yet. Nothing funny about it. I think they're running out of good ideas.

The show has been slowly slipping down hill, and this is a huge sign of that.
