What is the association? It is a soldiers' and veterans' fraternity. It is nonpolitical, nonsectarian and nonprofit.

When Did it begin? On 17 July 1944, a group of FIRST TEAM soldiers in the Admiralty Islands agreed to form an Association of 1st Cavalry Division soldiers and veterans to preserve old friendships and conduct periodic reunions.

Where is it? It is country-wide. National headquarters is in Copperas Cove, Texas. There are several chapters throughout the country as well as a chapter in the active division.

Who is eligible for membership? Anyone who has been assigned or attached to the 1st Cavalry Division anytime, anywhere is eligible for life membership. There are more than 22,000 men and women on our active membership roles. Friends of the Cav who have not served with the Division can become Associate Members.

Why Should You Belong? To preserve and strengthen friendships over the years through chapter activities, annual reunions and our bimonthly newspaper, The Saber. Further, to meet new people and make new friendships through association activities; from horse cavalry through ground and airmobile infantry to heavy armor, we share a great Division heritage and tradition. To obtain tangible evidence of membership in this great fraternity, i.e. lapel pin, membership card and certificate, decals, and a one-year subscription to the Saber. And finally, to help special projects such as our Scholarship Fund.

Our Scholarship Foundation: Through The Foundation of the 1st Cavalry Division Association, we offer scholarships of up to $2,400 to children of 1st Cavalry Division troopers who have died or become totally disabled while serving in The Division. This program was begun to assist the children of battle casualties of the Vietnam War and has expanded to children of peacetime active duty Association members who died while serving in the Division. We have provided over $350,000.00 in grants to more than 260 children through this worthy program which continues today. Scholarship grants are also provided for active duty Division soldiers and their spouses.

In Summary: We are a group of soldiers and former soldiers from privates to 4-star generals who share a bond of service with the FIRST TEAM. We are dedicated to support of the Division and of each other.
