Waikato Clinical School

The Waikato Clinical School is a firmly established division of the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences, University of Auckland.

Waikato Hospital is a 700 bed regional base hospital providing general services for a surrounding population of approximately 320,000 and tertiary specialist services for regional population of 800,000. A regional trauma service is provided with a dedicated helicopter service based on campus.

For most of the academic year, there are approximately 50 - 60 undergraduate medical students on campus, groups of 15 nurses involved in postgraduate nursing programmes and an increasing number of undergraduate pharmacy students.

The school’s administration will soon be moving into the new clinical skills training centre and medical library building.

The adjacent Bryant Education Centre provides state of the art facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate education including a 200 seat auditorium and related seminar rooms.

Student accommodation is available in Hilda Ross House on campus by arrangement.

The academic establishment includes a Professor of Anaesthesia, Associated Professor in Medicine, and Senior Lectureships in all specialties.

Opportunities for overseas undergraduate medical student electives are extremely limited and must be requested through the Administrator, Raewyn Wooderson.

There are opportunities for senior academic appointments in particular in Medicine and its sub-specialties, and in Psychiatry.
