Protect your domain with Webnames.ca

Adding WebnamesTM Privacy to your Domain

New Domain(s)

To add privacy to a new domain name, first complete your registration. After your transaction is complete, select the "add Privacy to a Registrant" link from the Next Steps page.

Previously Registered Domain(s)

To add Privacy to a previously registered domain name, login to your Webnames.ca account. Click the "Manage Domain Privacy" option in the left menu, then select “Edit” for the Registrant profile of the domain you want Privacy on.

Please Note:

  • WebnamesTM Privacy is applied to the Registrant profile; therefore all domains under the same Registrant must have Privacy.
  • "Individual" registrants of .CA domains (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, legal representative and aboriginal person) will receive WHOIS Privacy by default through CIRA– no action or purchase is required. This does not apply to corporations or other registrant types.

What is WebnamesTM Privacy

When you register a domain name, your personal information including name, address, phone number and email are listed in a public WHOIS database.

WebnamesTM Privacy replaces the Administrative, Technical and Billing contacts of your WHOIS record with generic WebnamesTM Services Inc. contact information.

With WebnamesTM Privacy you retain ownership and complete control of your domain. For .CA domains, you will continue to be listed as the Registrant name. For all other domain extensions, your Organization/Company name in the WHOIS will be set to WebnamesTM Services Inc. If you desire full anonymity for .CA domain names, please contact Webnames.ca Support.

Why Use Privacy

An "unlisted" or "private" WHOIS record protects you from identity theft, prevents spam and telemarketing, reduces unsolicited direct mail, and allows you to keep concept-stage projects anonymous.

Our Privacy Service is Virtually Spam Proof

WebnamesTM Privacy stops virtually all WHOIS generated spam. Unlike other privacy services that simply create an alias for your email address and continue to forward you the spam, WebnamesTM Privacy allows only official Registrar and Registry correspondence through. All other emails are blocked and returned to sender with an automated response stating the official procedure on how to contact you.

If someone wants to contact you at your domain email, they must complete a request form. After the request is processed by our Support team only then will the correspondence be forwarded to the administrative email address we have on file for you.

Regular mail, registered mail, couriered mail and faxes will also be returned to sender and required to complete the form and pay the fee before such correspondence will be delivered to you.
