A slideshow to honor the fiftieth year of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Program at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Program Profile The GFD Program began in 1959 at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution with the aim of introducing a then relatively new topic in mathematical physics, geophysical fluid dynamics, to graduate students in physical sciences. It has been held each summer since and promotes an exchange of ideas among the many distinct fields that share a common interest in the nonlinear dynamics of rotating, stratified fluids. Fellowships Graduate students and researchers from a variety of fields who share a common interest in the nonlinear dynamics of geophysical fluids from the deep interior of the Earth, through the oceans, ice sheets and atmospheres share an intense ten-week research experience, and vigorous discussions of concepts that span different disciplines. Lectures Find information about the Current Lecture Series, Public Lecture Series and a link to the Physical Oceanography Weekly Seminar Schedule. Publications In this section find the annual proceedings volumes and newsletters for the geophysical fluid dynamics program. Life at GFD Read about life at GFD, find local resources and view photos. Archive This section includes an archive of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Program including the list of topics, lectures, fellows and scientists. | |||||||||||||
